No internships were found after intense searching some provide certificates without gaining much experience just to get it done for activity points. There are not many companies that provide internships.

Yes it's mandatory to go for atleast one internship. The duration of internship depends. I did one month internship under siemens at Mumbai. it was part of a scholarship and that was really a nice experience.
