TKMCE Kollam Courses, Eligibility and Fees

Students can study engineering, architecture, urban planning, computer applications and research at TKMCE. The approved intake is 780 seats for the 8 B.Tech branches and 246 seats across M.Tech programmes. Depending on the specialisation, total M.Tech fees range from INR 37,760 to INR 57,976.

CSE and CSE (Artificial Intelligence) have the most competitive KEAM cutoffs among the B.Tech options. Electrical and Computer Engineering combines electrical systems with digital computing. At the postgraduate level, Industrial Refrigeration and Cryogenics and Electrical Vehicle Engineering are specialised M.Tech options that address emerging industry needs.

TKMCE Kollam Admission Procedure

The entrance examination and selection route depend on the programme. Undergraduate seats are filled through rank-based counselling, while postgraduate selection considers the relevant entrance score and academic qualifications. PhD applicants also undergo a research aptitude test and an interview.

Steps for B.Tech and B.Arch Admission

1. Check the academic requirement. B.Tech applicants need at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the 10+2 level. For B.Arch, applicants must have studied Mathematics in 10+2 and scored at least 50%.
2. Take the relevant entrance examination. For B.Tech, KEAM is conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala. B.Arch accepts either KEAM or NATA scores.
3. Participate in centralised counselling through the LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Kerala. Students fill their course choices, and seats are assigned by rank through multiple allotment rounds.

Steps for M.Tech and M.Plan Admission

1. Meet the degree requirement. M.Tech applicants must hold a relevant B.Tech or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution. M.Plan in Urban Planning accepts B.Tech/B.Arch graduates.
2. Obtain a valid GATE score in the relevant discipline.
3. Take part in TKMCE's selection process, which is coordinated with KTU. The merit list considers GATE performance, the academic record and the institute-level selection process.

MCA Admission Requirements

For MCA, applicants need a bachelor's degree in any discipline and must have studied Mathematics or Statistics in 10+2 or graduation. Selection uses KMAT Kerala or PGCET Kerala scores. The programme lasts 2 years.

Steps for PhD Admission

1. Hold a master's degree in the relevant field with at least 55% marks and a valid GATE or NET score.
2. Apply in response to the PhD admission notifications issued periodically by TKMCE.
3. Complete the written research aptitude test and interview used to shortlist applicants.

TKMCE Kollam Placement Results

Campus recruitment for B.Tech, M.Tech and MCA is organised by the Training and Placement Cell. During 2025, 347 students received 444 offers. Those placed included 301 B.Tech, 18 M.Tech and 28 MCA students.

Oracle offered the year's highest package of INR 19.5 LPA, meaning INR 19.5 lakhs per annum. The average reached INR 5.7 LPA in 2025, compared with INR 5.46 LPA in the preceding year. CSE and ECE led both in average packages and the number of offers.

Recruitment covers IT, software services, public sector undertakings and core engineering fields such as manufacturing and construction. Most MCA placements are in IT and software work. Civil and Mechanical Engineering graduates also find roles with infrastructure companies and government-sector projects.

TKMCE Kollam Rankings

TKMCE takes part in the National Institutional Ranking Framework and has appeared regularly in its recent Engineering rankings. Its national position in NIRF Engineering 2025 was the 251-300 band.

TKMCE Kollam Campus Facilities

At Karicode in Kollam, the 25-acre campus is 6 km from Kollam railway station. Its 4,000 students study at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Separate hostels serve boys and girls. Annual hostel charges fall between INR 32,500 and INR 92,000, depending on the accommodation and facilities chosen.

The central library's collection includes 94,982 books, 10,149 e-journals and over 203,000 e-books. Students also have access to a Central Computing Facility and a dedicated workshop complex. The IDEA Lab supports innovation and entrepreneurship, while the FAB Lab provides digital fabrication facilities. CNC machining centres and spaces for indoor and outdoor sports are also available.

Autonomy, granted in 2022, allows TKMCE to update its curriculum without waiting for KTU's revision cycles. This flexibility has supported newer options such as undergraduate CSE (AI), postgraduate Electrical Vehicle Engineering and M.Plan in Urban Planning.

TKMCE Kollam Scholarships

Financial support is available through TKMCE's own scholarship fund and schemes run by the central and state governments. College management, faculty and alumni fund the TKM Merit-Cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship. It supports academically strong students whose annual family income is below INR 2.5 Lakhs.

Comparison of TKMCE, GEC Thrissur and NSS College of Engineering

Government Engineering College (GEC), Thrissur and NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad are common alternatives considered by KEAM applicants looking at TKMCE Kollam. All three are affiliated with KTU, operate as government or government-aided colleges, and use KEAM-based centralised counselling for admission.

Among these three colleges, TKMCE alone holds UGC autonomous status and a confirmed NIRF Engineering rank band. GEC Thrissur charges lower fees as a fully government institution. It attracts applicants from Central Kerala and has competitive KEAM cutoffs. For students from Northern Kerala districts, NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad is a preferred government-aided option with a broader range of accepted KEAM ranks.
