MREC Hyderabad Admission Process
MREC follows the Telangana government and JNTUH admission framework. B.Tech seats are divided between Category A, which uses centralised counselling, and Category B, for which students apply directly to the college. Postgraduate engineering, management and computer application admissions are handled through the relevant entrance examinations and TGCHE counselling.
B.Tech Category A and Category B
Applicants in both categories must complete 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. They need at least 50% aggregate, while SC and ST applicants need 45%. Selection then follows different routes:
- Category A (70% seats): Students need a valid TGEAPCET or JEE Main rank. Seat allocation takes place through TGCHE counselling and web options.
- Category B (30% seats): Students submit their applications directly to MREC. A TGEAPCET rank is not compulsory, and seats are assigned according to the percentage obtained in the 10+2 group subjects.
Students can follow these steps for admission:
- Complete 10+2 with the subjects and minimum marks required for the chosen course.
- Take TGEAPCET or JEE Main for Category A B.Tech admission, TS ECET for lateral entry, GATE or TS PGECET for M.Tech, or TSICET for MBA and MCA.
- Register for the relevant TGCHE counselling process and enter MREC among the web options, if applying through a centralised route.
- Accept the allotted seat and complete document verification and fee payment.
- For a Category B B.Tech seat, apply to MREC directly and take part in its merit-based allotment process.
During Round 2 of TGEAPCET 2026, General-category closing ranks across MREC branches were between 23,477 and 42,195. CSE and AI/ML generally closed at the lower rank numbers in this range.
M.Tech through GATE or TS PGECET
M.Tech applicants require a B.Tech degree in the relevant engineering branch with at least 50% marks. Preference is given to a valid GATE score, while Telangana candidates may also use a TS PGECET rank. Seat processing takes place through TGCHE postgraduate engineering counselling.
MBA and MCA through TSICET
TSICET is compulsory for MBA and MCA admission. Any recognised graduation degree meets the academic requirement for MBA. MCA applicants must have studied Mathematics or Statistics at either the 10+2 or graduation stage. TGCHE conducts the counselling for both programmes.
MREC Hyderabad Placements
For B.Tech in the 2024-25 placement season, MREC reported a highest package of INR 28 LPA and an average package of INR 6 LPA. In 2024, 897 of the 1,115 registered students found placements, giving a placement rate of 80%.
Technology companies make many of their offers to students from CSE, IT, AI/ML and Data Sciences. Students in ECE, EEE, Mechanical and Civil receive opportunities from both technology service firms and companies working in manufacturing, infrastructure and core engineering.
| Sector | Recruiters |
|---|---|
| Technology and IT Services | Infosys, TCS, Wipro, IBM, Persistent Systems, Oracle |
| Engineering and Manufacturing | BOSCH |
| BFSI | HDFC Bank |
The Training and Placement Cell runs aptitude sessions, mock interviews and technical preparation throughout the year for final-year students. MREC graduates also take GATE when seeking M.Tech admission at leading institutes or employment in government PSUs.
MREC Hyderabad Rankings

MREC Hyderabad Campus and Infrastructure
MREC occupies a 30-acre campus at Maisammaguda in Secunderabad, Telangana. Separate departmental blocks support its engineering programmes. Academic facilities include a central library with digital subscriptions, dedicated computer laboratories and modern workshops and laboratories for ECE, Mechanical and Civil Engineering.
The campus Training and Placement Cell remains active throughout the year and organises aptitude preparation, mock interviews and technical workshops. An Innovation and Entrepreneurship Cell also operates at the institution, which participates in hackathons and technical festival circuits.
Students coming from outside the area can use hostel accommodation available on or near the campus. Other facilities include sports areas, a gymnasium, canteen and medical centre. Road links and the nearby Malla Reddy MMTS station connect Maisammaguda with Secunderabad and Hyderabad city.
MREC vs CMRCET vs Vardhaman College of Engineering
Students from Hyderabad and nearby areas with a General-category TGEAPCET rank between 20,000 and 50,000 often consider MREC alongside CMR College of Engineering and Technology (CMRCET) and Vardhaman College of Engineering. Each institution is approved by AICTE, affiliated with JNTUH and serves a similar group of applicants.
| Parameter | MREC Hyderabad | CMRCET Hyderabad | Vardhaman College, Hyderabad |
|---|---|---|---|
| NIRF Engineering 2025 | 201 to 300 band | 151 to 200 band | Not ranked |
| NAAC Grade | A++ | NAAC accredited | NAAC accredited |
| Established | 2002 | 2001 | 2001 |
| B.Tech Total Fees | INR 4.66 Lakhs | INR 4.60 Lakhs | INR 5.60 Lakhs |
| B.Tech Intake | 1,980 seats across 17 specialisations | Smaller intake | Large intake |
| Affiliation | JNTUH | JNTUH | JNTUH |
CMRCET has the higher NIRF Engineering position, with a 151-200 band compared with MREC's 201-300 band. MREC provides the broadest specialisation range and has one of the region's largest B.Tech intakes. Vardhaman has a large campus but no published NIRF rank. Students generally compare their TGEAPCET rank, preferred branch and travel distance before choosing among the three colleges.
