Sardar Patel University (SPU), also called SPUVVN, is a public state university set up in December 1955 through an Act of the Gujarat Legislature. The University Grants Commission has recognised it under Section 2(f) since 1968. It is named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and works as the main affiliating university for Anand district in Gujarat.

SPU has NAAC A accreditation with a CGPA of 3.25. Its 4th cycle Self-Study Report was submitted in 2022 for reassessment. The university is located at Vallabh Vidyanagar in Anand district, Gujarat, about 5 km from Anand city.

SPU Admission Process

SPU admission is linked with Gujarat state counselling for many courses. Most UG courses use GCAS, while PG courses are filled through the university admission portal at admission.spuportal.in.

Undergraduate (BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA) Admission

BA, B.Sc, B.Com, and BCA admissions on the main campus and in affiliated colleges are based on Class 12 marks. Most UG courses do not need an entrance test.

  • Stage 1: Students register online through the GCAS portal, which opens in June each year.
  • Stage 2: Merit lists are prepared using Class 12 marks and the student’s subject stream.
  • Stage 3: Students fill choices and take part in seat allotment.

MBA and Postgraduate Admission

MBA admission is done through ACPC Gujarat with CAT or state-level management entrance scores. Students must have a graduation degree in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate marks.

Law Admission

BA LLB and BBA LLB integrated courses use CLAT scores or a merit-based route for Gujarat state quota seats. LLM is offered in five specialisations, and students need at least 50% in LLB. The Law School at SPU is recognised by the BCI.

SPU Campus and Infrastructure

Sardar Patel University has its main campus at Vallabh Vidyanagar in Anand district, Gujarat. It is close to Charotar University of Science and Technology and forms part of the Vallabh Vidyanagar education hub, one of Gujarat’s oldest planned education townships.
