AMU Admission Dates 2026

AMU uses its own entrance tests, NEET-UG and CUET-UG for different courses. For the 2026-27 session, course-wise counselling and admission lists are being released through amucontrollerexams.com.

AMU Courses and Fees

AMU has courses under 13 faculties, including Engineering, Medical and Health Sciences, Law, Management, Arts, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Life Sciences and Unani Medicine. Since it is a centrally funded university, many government-funded programmes have subsidised fees.

Engineering fees at AMU depend on the department and its funding model. Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering are among the lowest-cost B.Tech options at INR 1.02 Lakhs for four years. BDS and some specialised engineering courses cost more; Electric and Hybrid Vehicles has a fee of INR 9.64 Lakhs. JNMC medical courses such as MBBS, MD/MS and DM/M.Ch are among the lower-cost medical education options in North India.

AMU Admission Process

AMU admission depends on the course. Some programmes use AMU entrance tests, while others use national exams such as NEET-UG, CUET-UG, CUET PG, CAT, GATE or NEET-PG.

1. Students choose the AMU programme and check the required entrance exam.
2. They apply through the relevant AMU or national exam process.
3. Eligible candidates appear for the test, or use the required national exam score.
4. AMU releases results, admission lists or counselling lists for the course.
5. Shortlisted candidates complete counselling, document verification and fee payment.

B.Tech (AMUEEE)

For B.Tech, AMU uses AMUEEE, its own engineering entrance examination. JEE Main scores are not accepted for B.Tech seat allotment at AMU. The AMUEEE paper tests Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from the 10+2 level.

• Eligibility: 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
• Minimum marks: 50% aggregate in PCM, or 45% for reserved categories
• AMU does not take part in JEE Main counselling, and UPTAC is not used for AMU
• B.Tech Lateral Entry is offered for Diploma holders through a separate entrance test for second-year entry

AMU has no management quota for B.Tech. Seats are allotted on merit through AMUEEE. Candidates from AMU schools may get an internal institutional quota, but seat allotment still stays within the merit system.

MBBS, BDS, and BUMS (Medical)

JNMC admits students to MBBS and BDS through NEET-UG. Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College also uses NEET-UG for BUMS. JNMC follows NMC counselling rules and has an institutional quota for AMU school students along with the open-merit quota.

For General Category MBBS seats at JNMC, the NEET-UG closing rank has usually been in the 4,000 to 10,000 range. This shows strong competition for subsidised MBBS seats at the central university hospital.

BA LLB and Law Programmes

The 5-year BA LLB course uses AMU’s law entrance test, which is held every year in April. Students must have passed 10+2 in any stream. For the 3-year LLB course, graduates appear for a separate entrance test. AMU Faculty of Law is ranked 9th in India by NIRF 2025.

MBA and Management

MBA admission at AMU is mainly through the university’s own entrance test, and some specialisations also accept CAT scores. Applicants need a graduation degree with at least 50% marks. MBA Financial Management and MBA Travel and Tourism cost INR 2.94 to 3.10 Lakhs because they are self-financed programmes. HR and Insurance specialisations are government-funded and cost INR 77,000.

Arts and Sciences (CUET-UG)

BA (Hons.) and B.Sc (Hons.) are available in more than 20 streams and use CUET-UG scores for admission. AMU displays admission lists on amucontrollerexams.com after CUET-UG results. From the 2022-23 admission cycle onward, these programmes do not need a separate AMU-level test.

AMU Placements

AMU has separate placement cells for Engineering at Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology, Management at the Faculty of Management Studies and Research, and Law. Placement results differ by college and course. The figures below are for the Engineering and MBA 2024-25 placement season.

Recruiters confirmed for AMU Engineering placements include TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Forbes Marshall, Publicis Sapient, Ramboll India, Amazon and IBM. For MBA placements, recruiters include ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Amazon, Wipro and selected FMCG companies. AMU’s alumni network in the Middle East, UK and the US also helps Law and Arts graduates with off-campus opportunities in government, civil services and the legal field.

JNMC MBBS graduates usually prepare for NEET-PG to enter MD/MS specialisations. JNMC’s government-funded MBBS seat does not have a rural service bond obligation, unlike state government medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh.

AMU Rankings

In NIRF 2025, AMU is placed 19th Overall and 10th among Universities in India. The Law faculty is also in the top 10 of the NIRF Law category.

AMU Scholarships

AMU students can apply for central government fellowships, university merit awards and community scholarships. The university has a scholarship office that guides students for government scheme applications.

UP domicile students enrolled in UG programmes can also use the UP Post-Matric Scholarship through AMU. It gives full fee reimbursement to SC/ST/OBC students whose family income is below INR 1 Lakh per annum.

AMU Campus and Infrastructure

AMU’s 1,155-acre campus in Aligarh works like a residential township. It includes departments, faculty housing, student hostels, markets, a post office, schools and the JNMC hospital complex.

The university has 19 boys’ hostels and 8 girls’ hostels on the main campus, so a large number of students can live on campus. Residential hostel charges range from INR 0 to INR 3,500 per annum, while mess charges are separate. Kennedy Library has more than 8 lakh volumes. AMU also has sports grounds, a swimming pool and a stadium for its residential student community.

JNMC, the teaching hospital attached to AMU, has more than 2,000 beds and receives referral cases from western Uttar Pradesh. It supports classroom learning and clinical training for MBBS, MD/MS and allied health students.

AMU vs BHU vs Jamia Millia Islamia

AMU, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) are central universities with strong multi-disciplinary teaching traditions. Students often compare them for government-funded education in Engineering, Law, Social Sciences and Medical courses.

BHU has the strongest NIRF overall position among the three and stronger engineering placement outcomes because IIT (BHU) is a constituent institute. JMI is strong in design and media programmes and has an advantage for Delhi-based placements in media and technology. AMU has the widest mix of programmes on one campus, with Engineering, Medical through JNMC, Law, Islamic Studies and Unani Medicine together.
