Medico life at gmc kannur

What I Liked

Great facilities provide for education, which include miltople lecture halls for respective departments and labs and demonstration rooms with enoigh facilities. The college library is great for students.
Campus life really niceand enjoying it really well and utilizing all thefacilities provided by college

What I didn’t like

Nothing much everything is great and as expected.
But we have a tight schedule and managed it with everyones help.

Placement Experience:

Its well, having nice oppurtunities. Great placements and oppurtunities.As we pass out as a great doctor we are well efficient to get oppurtunities and coild easily get placed in desired sectors. The placement are not by campus placement

Internships Opportunities:

Compensory intership of five years with a stipend of 23000, we finish the entire course by 5.5 years and an year is for inyership througg we work as doctprs at hospital and learn more about it. It is the most important year of entire journey.

Government Medical College Kannur

What I Liked

The college infrastructure is really great. We've got a hospital block with 8 floors with separate wards for each department. The general medicine wards cover almost whole of the 7th and 8th floor. And the number of patients who can be admitted for in patient care is very large. The ICU block is also really huge where the patients are admitted for intensive care. There is a lecture theatre inside the hospital where the professors conduct lecture classes expecially for the final year students in all the clinical subjects apart from the regular clinical postings.
The academic block has got 5 floors and in each floor we've a separate department operating. The labs are well equipped and the lecture halls have good audio visual aids for better communication between the professors and the students. There is also a museum and skill lab operating in the academic block. The kill lab is very useful as it is where we can give CPR simulator exercises and various other maneuvers too in mannequins

What I didn’t like

Despite having good amenities and patient load, the location of the college is somewhat distant from the town area. The nearest town is 15 kms away. That kind of makes it difficult for the hostel inmates to travel to the railway station at the time of holidays to go home.
There's an issue of water scarcity occurring during the summer months.

Placement Experience:

After academics, that is if you pass the final year exams, you have to do one year of compulsory rotatory internship. During this period you'll be paid a stipend of 27k. And after this one year, you can work as a Medical Officer in a Government hospital, where you'll get around 45k monthly salary or as a General Practitioner in which case you'll be paid depending on the number of hours or patient load. The salary package varies depending on the place you work but the government salary is almost constant, that is 45k.

Internships Opportunities:

I haven't applied for any internships during my UG period, so I don't have a first hand experience in that to review. But you can volunteer for several public health camps conducted by the community medicine department or any other departments if you have the time. There will be no stipend for volunteering activities though.

Review of 1st year MBBS

What I Liked

I like the synthetic track and football turf here.
I like the environment around the college and hostel. It is green and green eveywhere and really pretty

What I didn’t like

I dislike the hostel timings here. It is 9.30 pm for girls. After that u will be allowed to the hostel but you will have to sign in the register
I dislike the seniors here. Some are really good but some others arent so good

Placement Experience:

During housergency we have to work in our hospital and that is for one year. We may also have to work in nearby women and child hospital and certain other hospitals too. After that we have to qualify NEET PG for further studies.
