BPMA Admission Dates 2027

BPMA admits students through several course intakes each year. Most pre-sea programmes have their next main intake in January 2027. Applications remain open throughout the year, while available seats are allotted on a rolling basis.

Final admission to B.Sc Nautical Science also depends on meeting DG Shipping medical fitness rules. Before their admission can be confirmed, applicants must complete a medical examination with a practitioner approved by DG Shipping.

BPMA Courses and Fees

BPMA provides degree, diploma and certificate-level training for different maritime careers, ranging from deck rating roles to officer positions. Fees cover specialised simulators, safety instruction and practical training components required under the DG Shipping curriculum.

The one-year Advanced Diploma courses in Nautical Science and Marine Engineering are among BPMA's main pre-sea programmes. After completing the required sea service, graduates can work towards Watchkeeping and Engineering Watchkeeping Officer of the Watch (OOW) certification.

BPMA Admission Process

Students apply directly to BPMA. Admission depends on the eligibility rules set by DG Shipping, the required medical clearance, counselling and verification of documents.

1. Choose a course and submit an application directly to the academy.
2. Confirm that the academic marks and age requirements for the selected programme have been met.
3. Complete the required DG Shipping medical fitness examination for maritime courses.
4. Attend counselling and present the necessary documents for verification at the BPMA campus.

Pre-Sea Officer Programmes (Nautical and Engineering)

• Eligibility: Applicants need Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 10+2. B.Sc Nautical Science requires at least 60% aggregate in PCM and 50% in English, while the Advanced Diploma courses require at least 45% in PCM.
• Age Limit: The permitted age range is 17 to 25 years. SC/ST applicants receive a five-year relaxation.
• Medical Fitness: Before admission, students must pass the DG Shipping ENG1 or an equivalent medical test conducted by a DGMS-approved medical practitioner.
• Selection: BPMA shortlists applicants on merit, followed by counselling and document verification at the campus.

Graduate Marine Engineering (GME)

Mechanical Engineering graduates who want to work as merchant navy engineers can enter through the GME programme. Applicants must hold a B.E. or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with at least 50% marks. BPMA provides six months of post-graduation training before graduates become eligible for shipboard placement as fourth engineers.

GP Rating and Short Courses

Students who complete GP Rating can begin work in the merchant navy as deck ratings. Admission requires a Class 10 pass with English as a subject and the prescribed medical fitness. The Maritime Catering Certificate prepares students for cooking and catering jobs on merchant vessels. Its minimum qualification is 10+2 or an ITI in Catering.

BPMA Placements and Career Outcomes

For 2024, BPMA recorded a 93.8% placement rate. The reported average package was INR 6 LPA, while the highest package reached INR 18 LPA. Graduates can begin with trainee roles in international shipping companies and move to higher merchant navy ranks after gaining sea experience and professional certification.

Synergy Maritime, Mitsui OSK Lines and Dynacom Tankers are among the leading shipping companies that recruit BPMA graduates. For direct cadet placements, the academy works with Indian shipping businesses, crew management companies and international shipping groups.

BPMA Campus and Infrastructure

BPMA's main campus is located in CBD Belapur, Sector 11, Navi Mumbai, with another campus at Old Panvel, Bandar Road, in Raigad district. Students can reach the Belapur campus from Belapur railway station on the Harbour Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway.

Academic and practical facilities include navigation simulators, marine engineering simulators, firefighting equipment and STCW safety training facilities required by the DG Shipping regulatory framework. Students also have access to dedicated workshops, a library, gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria and hostel accommodation for those coming from outside the city.

BPMA vs Tolani Maritime Institute vs IMI Delhi NCR

Students comparing private maritime institutes may consider BPMA with Tolani Maritime Institute (TMI), Pune, and International Maritime Institute (IMI), Greater Noida. Each institute has DG Shipping and AICTE approval and offers training for merchant navy careers.

BPMA is close to the major Port of Mumbai (JNPT) shipping corridor, which supports easier access to port-based networking and cadet training logistics. TMI offers a larger residential campus in Pune. IMI provides similar DG Shipping programmes in Delhi NCR for students based in northern India.
