UCET VBU Important Admission Dates 2027-28

For the 2027-28 intake, applicants must take JEE Main 2027 and then register for Jharkhand state engineering counselling when JCECEB releases its schedule. The dates below are tentative.

UCET VBU Courses and Fees

UCET offers four-year B.Tech degrees in CSE, ECE, IT and Mechanical Engineering. Diploma holders can join the second year through the three-year lateral entry route. The regular B.Tech intake is 210 seats each year, including state-quota and management seats, while lateral entry has 10 seats in each branch.

The first-semester payment is INR 44,000, which includes registration, admission and semester charges. Each remaining semester costs INR 30,000. Examination charges, optional hostel fees and personal study materials are additional expenses. Since UCET is a government constituent college, Jharkhand state rules control its fee structure.

UCET VBU Admission Process

UCET selects regular B.Tech students through JEE Main merit and JCECEB state counselling. The college does not hold a separate entrance examination. Lateral entry applicants qualify through JCECE (LE).

B.Tech Admission

Applicants must pass Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with Chemistry, Biology or Computer Science. They need at least 50% in aggregate. The minimum is 45% for SC, ST and other reserved-category applicants. A valid JEE Main score is compulsory.

• Take the January session, the April session or both JEE Main sessions. The best score is considered.
• Apply for JCECEB engineering counselling after the merit list is released.
• Add the preferred UCET branch and college combinations during choice filling.
• Wait for allotment based on the JEE Main Combined Merit List rank, category and available seats.
• After receiving a seat, report to UCET with the original documents and pay the semester fee.

Earlier JCECEB counselling records indicate that General-category students with Jharkhand domicile and JEE Main Combined Merit List ranks up to 4,000 to 8,000 have obtained CSE and ECE seats. Mechanical Engineering has remained open at higher CML ranks. Applicants from other states can compete for All India category seats when such seats are available.

B.Tech Lateral Entry Admission

A candidate with a Diploma in a relevant engineering branch may enter B.Tech in the second year, which starts from the third semester. Admission requires a JCECE (LE) score and at least 45% in a Diploma in Engineering from a recognised polytechnic.

UCET VBU Placements

The VBU Placement Cell supports recruitment for UCET students. According to NIRF 2025 data for the 2023-24 batch, 117 of 209 graduating students were placed. This equals a 55.9% placement rate, while the median salary stood at INR 5 LPA. CSE and IT recorded the highest offer rates, and most placements came from the IT sector.

TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, IBM, Accenture and Cognizant are among the regular campus recruiters. Tata Steel and other manufacturing and process companies have also hired Mechanical Engineering students. Some graduates prepare for GATE to pursue M.Tech or take civil services examinations instead of entering campus recruitment. These students form part of the batch recorded as not placed.

UCET VBU Scholarships

UCET students who meet the applicable conditions can apply for Jharkhand state and central government scholarships. The available schemes support eligible SC, ST, OBC, EBC and meritorious students.

Because UCET follows regulated government fees, an eligible scholarship may meet a large share or all of a student's yearly semester charges. Students should confirm the conditions and submit applications through the National Scholarship Portal at the beginning of each academic year.

UCET VBU Campus and Infrastructure

UCET functions inside the Vinoba Bhave University campus in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. Its students have access to the VBU central library and its print and digital resources. The infrastructure also includes department-specific engineering laboratories, computer centres, a canteen and common university sports grounds. The campus provides a quieter study setting away from a major city.

Road services connect Hazaribagh with Ranchi, Dhanbad and Bokaro. Ranchi is 100 km away, while Hazaribagh Road railway station is 65 km from the city. Bus transport is available. VBU has campus hostels, but UCET students receive rooms only when places are available. Those who do not get a hostel berth usually arrange private accommodation in Hazaribagh town and use the available transport to reach the campus.

UCET VBU vs BIT Sindri vs UIT Ranchi

Students seeking a government engineering college in Jharkhand may compare UCET with Birsa Institute of Technology, Sindri in Dhanbad and University Institute of Technology, Ranchi University. All three are state government or state-university institutions, and each uses JEE Main-based Jharkhand counselling for admission.

BIT Sindri has operated since 1949 and offers more branches, a longer placement history and a NAAC A+ grade. Students with stronger JEE Main ranks therefore often place it first. UCET and UIT Ranchi provide comparable government-fee engineering options for students who prefer Hazaribagh and Ranchi respectively. UCET may suit applicants who want the VBU campus environment and a quieter location in Jharkhand, while UIT provides access to the Ranchi urban area.
