The journey of Dr Ajai Chowdhry and HCL began in 1976 when with a group of five visionaries has co-founded HCL. He was driven by a dream to harness the power of microprocessors and revolutionise the world. HCL has tremendously expanded under his leadership that left its footprint globally. HCL has established a successful businesses across China, ASEAN, and Hong Kong. It has a valuation of an impressive US $50 billion.

In 1995, Dr. Chowdhry transformed HCL Infosystems into a leader in hardware products, mobile telephony, and systems integration. Over 15 years, HCL Infosystems has propelled into a INR 12,000 crore (US $1.6 billion) organization under the leadership of Dr. Ajai Chowdhury. They have solidify its position in the sector of technology.

Dr. Ajai Chowdhry has also played a pivotal role in shaping India's electronics industry. Since 1999 he is serving on government committees along with chairing a task force for the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MEITY) in 2009. His influence extends to key positions, including Chairman of the Mission Governing Board of India's National Quantum Mission and Distinguished Fellow at NITI Aayog.

In 2011 Dr. Chowdhry was honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan. Along with this honorary award, he has also received Electronics Man of the Year 2010 and Lifetime Achievement Award by the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) in 2024.

Dr. Ajai Chowdhry who is an institution builder and philanthropist has shaped learning centres like IIIT-Naya Raipur and IIT Hyderabad.
