Jammu and Kashmir government has announced that students who missed the CUET 2023 (Common University Entrance Test) will have the opportunity to take admission to Class XII. Due to distant examination centers, students from Jammu and Kashmir were unable to appear for the CUET 2023 Exam held on June 12, 2023. In light of this, the government has decided that these students will be allowed to take admission to subjects and colleges of their choice based on their merit in Class XII.

Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary of Education, stated that the higher education department of J&K will implement CUET for the academic year 2023 in line with the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He mentioned that approximately 87,309 candidates from the UT of J&K had registered for CUET (UG) 2023, and examination centers were assigned within the geographical boundaries of J&K based on seat availability. However, some candidates were allocated exam centers outside the UT of J&K after the NTA (National Testing Agency) announced the exam dates.

Considering the situation and the concerns expressed by students, NTA, under the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, deferred the CUET (UG) examination for J&K students. A center reallocation process exclusively for J&K students was implemented, and new dates were issued for conducting the examination.

The education department swiftly arranged the necessary infrastructure to save students from travel and logistical challenges when appearing for CUET (UG) 2023 outside J&K. However, some Jammu division students were still assigned centers outside J&K even after reallocation, and certain subject combinations had discrepancies in examination dates.

Alok Kumar assured the students who couldn't appear for the CUET (UG) 2023 due to exam centers outside J&K that sufficient opportunities will be provided for admission to UG programs in various colleges of UT of J&K. The admission process will be based on the students' merit in Class XII.
