- Campus life is one the best thing. Being in the one of the oldest city of India has a different vibe in it. We have done many night outs in ghats which was one of the best experience of my life. We also have many facilities such as gym , badminton court, squash and many more .So along with academics we can also focus on our mental and physical well being. Friends I made here are like my family as we live away from our family, for any small help we go to them. Here we also have very good connections with our seniors. I have not faced any ragging instead when we were new to college they helped us to get well known to college. We also have cafeteria in our campus though it serves less quantity of food but it is delicious. Campus life is life time moment and I will never get back these golden days.
- Other thing which I like is the academics of IIT BHU. Here we have a very strong coding culture. And in my course of Computer Science Almost all the subjects are covered in depth. Here they focus on concepts which makes us understand everything from scratch. Courses like cloud computing , DSA ,Algorithms, AI/ML, Computer Organisation , Computer Graphics , Information Retrieval, Soft Computing, Web development , SQL , Database Management etc thus every domain is covered. They made our foundation very strong. Professors here have published many papers and written many books thus proving there worth.
Dislikes
- MAIN thing I don't like is the quality of mess food and hostel infrastructure. As we don't have much facilities in hostel and food served in mess is nightmare for me. We get bored as only same dishes are served every day. They don't have varieties. Infrastructure is also worst at the same level. They don't believe in repairing. My Cupboard which was broken was repaired after six months were passed. They gave reason that this is government work so it will take time but the real reason is they don't do follow up regularly. Water cooler meant to be repaired every month are kept same (sometimes 6 months are passed and they are not repaired). No special food during festivals. We don't have AC in lecture halls. My CSE department has classroom of strength 40 whereas our class strength is over 100.So this are major problems I face.
- Other thing which I don't like is the way academics are covered. They focus a lot on attendance. And we have many assignments to be submitted which becomes burdensome. Other things I have faced is the departmental procedure. I got one scholarship but they delay their work and I don't get money on time. Grading System of Academics is also bad. In few subjects most of the candidates got B grade but grades should be distributed evenly. I also remember that my friend got 81/100 marks in one subject and in similar subject I got 80/100 marks but he got A grade whereas I got A- grade. So sometimes getting just one mark less decrease our cpi by 0.3 so this feels frustated sometimes.
Remarks :
The main reason for choosing IIT BHU was because of its rich culture and well known research facilities. IIT BHU is known for its strong alumni network though this wasn't the reason. Another reason was I was interested in computer science and by JEE Advance rank I was getting this college only from top iits. So some bad aspects of my college is infrastructure. As they have old buildings and hostels with not much amenities but still they are trying to improve it. We are expecting to have AC in all lecture halls by 2026. Usually for computer Science the cutoff goes around 700 rank in JEE Advance for general category. So ya its not easy to get but still hard work, determination and self belief is all you need.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Computer Science course has high demand and the rapid growth in AI/ML made me to choose this stream. This course was the reason I chose IIT BHU. Here we have very strong coding culture. Other reasons were that I already visited varanasi before and I love the peace this place brings in my mind. Here all faculties are exceptionally talented(except 1 or 2) and they have completed their phd and have huge experience in teaching. One faculty has completed his 40 years in IIT BHU. Most of the faculties focus on concepts and understanding rather than coding. This makes us understand how everything works from scratch. We have two major exams- MidSEm exam and endsem exam. Mid sem exam is generally in 1.5 months after the start of the semester. Difficulty level is moderate for students who has understand the concept.
Internships Opportunities :
There are many internship opportunities. I will mention few of the highest paid internship on campus. Alpha grep whose stipend is 5lakh per month. they gave it for SDE role where we have to give optimal solutions using AI/ML. APT Portfolio whose stipend is 4.5 lakh per month they gave this stipend for quant role where we need to create new algo trading methods. Others such as Microsoft Google ,Oracle gave 1.25 lakh per month for SDE role. Other companies were Goldman Sachs which gave 2.6lakh per month for quant role and 1.6lakh for SDE role. JPMC gave 1.5 lakh per month. AQR Capital, UI PAth gave 1.5lakh per month. Samsung gave 1.5 lakh for advanced software developer and 75k for normal developer. Adobe gave 1lakh per month. Thus many companies visited in the month of August. In CSE 50% students got internship in the first week of internship.
Placement Experience :
Here we have very good placements. Best companies visit our campus during placement season. Different companies have different eligibility criteria. This year highest package was offered by APT Portfolio which was around 90lakh per annum. Average package is around 35 lakh per annum. Few of the good companies visited are DE Shaw, Nutanix, Microsoft, Oracle ,AQR Capital, Google, Adobe, Salesforce, Samsung , UI Path, Intuit, Decimal Point ,Schrodinger, Flipkart ,Nvidia, Visa, American Express, Cohesity, Plutus Research, Pace Stock, HiLabs etc. Almost all students get placed .In CSE we have 100% placement. Google hired 5 candidates. Microsoft hired 4, Oracle hired 6 and so on . I also look forward in placement season to get placed in one of these companies and to get professional experience.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
We have tuition fees of 1lakh rupees and other fees which includes examination fees-500, enrollment-200, Gymkhana fees (which is playing ground for IIT BHU students)-600, festival fees ( events such as kashiyatra , technex and other festivals celebrated are included)-150 ,Hostel seat rent,-300 , electric charges-1200 and hostel development fund-2250 and other campus services-200. Tuition fee for SC/ST is 0 and for OBC, general students with family income less than 5lakh is 33333. There are many scholarship provided by the institute. Few central or state government scholarship are also there which benefits students whose parent's income is relatively less. As IIT BHU's alumni network is too strong so there are many scholarship provided by alumni network. Endowment scholarship provides around 50000 every year for around 10 students. and KAF81 scholarship provides 20000 for first year students.
Campus Life :
Campus Life is beautiful. There are many activities in sports such as badminton, squash, boxing , volleyball ,cricket etc. We also have gym in our campus. We have big library where many copies of books are there of subjects which are there in curriculum. Classroom are not that good as we don't have much facilities. There is no AC in classroom and for common subjects where students to classroom ratio is too big ,it becomes impossible to attend whole lecture. We have three grounds named Rajputana, Gymkhana , ADV Ground. Almost all sports are covered. We have mainly two fests , first one is kashiyatra in the month of January and Technex (technical event) in the month of march. Kashiyatra is the one where we get the vibe of college. We have clubs in almost all sectors. Coding club , Literature Club , Dance Club, Quant Club, Aerospace, Cybersecurity, Buisness and many more.
Hostel Facilities :
It is compulsory for everyone to opt for hostel. Hostel infrastructure is not so good as I had one cupboard where door was broken and they repaired it after 6 months. And now about the mess quality , its better I don't tell. We usually have repetitive food and taste is also not good. We barely have variety. Most of us end up eating outside twice in a week though paying 30000 every year in mess. We do complain but they hardly do any changes.

Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is well structured and covers both theoretical and practical knowledge which helps to build a strong foundation for a subject like biomedical. I always had interest in human health and diseases which is why I chose this course. Faculties are always willing to clear doubts as they are well qualified in there particular domain. And overall I feel the course provides a good academic environment for students. there is a academic calendar provided which gets updated time to time and exam are conducted according to this calendar only.

Campus placements start from the 7th semester for students, once the University criteria is fulfilled. As B. Tech Biotechnology is a newly introduced course, there is no Branch wise Placement data available for B.Tech Biotechnology as of now but the university does attract companies like Nestlé, Yakult, Dabur, Cognizant, Accenture, Infosys, HCLTech, and so on. The university stated the overall highest package was 60 LPA and the average placement was around 5.4 LPA. My ambition is to pursue a career in Biotechnology in R&D or QA/QC or Biopharmaceutical industry after graduation and enhance my technical knowledge.
