The foremost reason for applying here is because of the Physics Department, the faculty is by far the best. I can't say about the other departments but the Science Departments are very good. Now, the admission was solely based on the merit list, with priority being the in-house quota. Well, the college is good overall with the courses, pursuing upto Masters and even PhD; and one of the best autonomous colleges in Pune, just after Fergusson College, in the SPPU. For admission, you can directly apply after your merit result, of which the cut-off is announced after the result. Process includes online admit, whose information college provides thoroughly, so no issues there.
The reason for choosing my 'Physics Majors' was because of my understanding and capability in physics. I believe science is the subject of critical analysis and anyone can do that if given the right ideas. Well, most of the professors are Doctorate themselves, and are very skilled in their jobs. Their methods of teaching are very great and they mostly go for the advanced aspects of the physical science. My review for the teaching method would be 8/10, as sometimes it might not be favourable, but most of the times, it's the best. About the exams, they are held after the Semester, with a CIE (Continuous Internal Evaluation), basically the internals and the ESE (End Semester Examination). The difficulty level really depends on the course, for example oscillation is mostly of theories and it's problems, but others are not. So, the levels are not much higher, but surely depends on the course.
Now, the fee structure is arbitrary according to the year we are in. For Ex. It is ?7800 in the first year, then ?6000 in the second year, still yet to find about the third year (for SC). Well, I really don't have the data for the detailed fee structure, it might have been misplaced. But, it is quite affordable in many aspects and a worthwhile for the amount.
Many fests including Traditional Day, Black and White Day, Annual Function and most importantly events held by the individual departments themselves. They mostly take place between the months of December to February. Books ranging from various languages to various genres and various subjects are available. The most liked thing about the library, personally, is the availability of the needed books and research journals, for which I need in Physics. Now, classrooms are equipped with a projector, CCTV camera, stage, blackboard, and the things which you would expect in a classroom. As Modern College is a vast college with Engg being close to us, they are distributed in different sectors. Now, in our sector, we have a ground, perfect for football and cricket and baseball, also having a basketball court, which in turn could also be made into a volleyball court. As I'm not a sports person myself, I cannot tell you the detailed description, but many sports facilities are available.
I haven't reached my placement stage yet but from what I have seen the college doesn't wait until the final year to start preparing students. We have coding sessions, skills building workshops and career guidance from the beginning. Seniors also share their experiences which gives us a better idea of what to expect. I feel the college is helping us build the right foundation for internships and placements. At the same time, I think getting a good job also depends on how much effort we put into improving our own skills. So far I feel I am on the right track
no placement data is present now but many of students are working on their own projects and few are cracked the internships and now currently serving their period on the companies and it's really great opportunities.
The college does have a placement cell. It provides some in campus placements . Rarely 2% students get in campus placements. Rest have to find jobs pn their own. You wi have to do alot of interships and gain practical skills to be placed
Diffrent companies have different criteria, limited companies comes in campus such as bootcoding Pvt.Ltd , and some small companies arrived. Highest package giving by companies is 4 LPA lowest package is 3LPA and average package is 2.5LPA. about 20% of students got placed. Searching a job after my course computation.
The faculty members are supporting but inexperienced the experienced professionals have left the college long time ago. This is one of the old colleges in Pune. The semesters are generally proactive extracurricular activities are less and are given not much priority .
