- Campus life is very eventful, you are a completely different person after 4 years of college life.
- The fests that take place from time to time and even the acads are pretty chill. Overall it’s a very stress free vibe.
Dislikes
- This year’s placement season that took a hit. But it was mainly because of the recession. Otherwise there is not much to hate.
- The politics may get dirty sometimes here, but since last few years it has been normalised
Remarks :
Since the college I got admitted to is an IIT, I did give JEE Mains and Advanced examinations, after which I proceeded with the JoSSA counselling. I had other choices like IIT Kharagpur Econ and IIT Delhi Textile but I preferred IIT Kanpur because of the beautiful campus and the academics there, along with that there were factors like distance from my home and the placements. After a lot of thinking I came to mainly two choices IIT KGP and Kanpur but since KGP was offering a BS degree in Econ I chose IIT Kanpur for my B.Tech.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course that I chose was among the top courses available in the nation and it doesn’t require much time per week so basically less commitment. The faculty was qualified but the teaching method used by most of the professors is boring which is a common thing in UG courses at IITs. The exams were quite easy, and per year we had two semesters that had mid-semester and end-semester exams along with a few quizzes. Since it’s a government college, the fee hike is not there and even if it’s there, it’s not that much. There are scholarships available for students depending on family income and other factors like the MCM scholarship.
Internships Opportunities :
I got an internship which was off-campus at Wise Finserv as an Analyst. On campus scene of internship is quite good, every year around 400 students get internships from 1200 students that sit in internship season. Companies like Janestreet offer as high as 30 lakhs for two months, and software companies like Oracle and Microsoft offer around 2 lakhs for 2 months then come to some core companies offering around 1 lakh for 2 months, other than this there are other benefits that vary from company to company.
Placement Experience :
Talking about this year, the placements took a hit due to the recession but otherwise the placements are good. Almost everyone gets placed by the end of phase 2 of placements. Just this time the number took a dip, around 70-80 percent students only got placed. Companies like JPMC, Google, Microsoft, JaneStreet, Alphagrep are common recruiters and recruit around 5-10 students every year and the number varies from company to company. The highest package is of Jane Street which is 5.5 Cr for quantitative trader and the average is around 26 lpa ctc. I got placed in Axxela so will be doing a job.
Campus Life :
The campus life is different from the campus life of other college students, there are several clubs under the 3 councils MnC, GnS, and SnT. Approximately 15 clubs under each council and then comes the fests which are also 3, Antaragni, the cultural fest in October along with Udghosh, the sports fest in September, and Techkriti, the technical fest in March. Overall the vibe and environment are superb with a lot of activities and events taking place around the year like Dance Extravaganza, Musical Night, Groove and Soothe, Nukkad Nataks, and many more. Each council and fest has its websites by the names mentioned above. There are sports competitions both inter iit and intra iit in which people participate in huge numbers. Hostels are compulsory for UG students and they are very cheap. The food is not bad, it’s pretty average according to the price and is hygienic.

They were no campus place name because I opted for humanity degree and humanities degree comes with no direct placement after UG and it acquires greater and highest studies so right now I am doing my post graduation and the emploibility is very low

The course curriculum is well structured and covers both theoretical and practical knowledge which helps to build a strong foundation for a subject like biomedical. I always had interest in human health and diseases which is why I chose this course. Faculties are always willing to clear doubts as they are well qualified in there particular domain. And overall I feel the course provides a good academic environment for students. there is a academic calendar provided which gets updated time to time and exam are conducted according to this calendar only.

Campus placements start from the 7th semester for students, once the University criteria is fulfilled. As B. Tech Biotechnology is a newly introduced course, there is no Branch wise Placement data available for B.Tech Biotechnology as of now but the university does attract companies like Nestlé, Yakult, Dabur, Cognizant, Accenture, Infosys, HCLTech, and so on. The university stated the overall highest package was 60 LPA and the average placement was around 5.4 LPA. My ambition is to pursue a career in Biotechnology in R&D or QA/QC or Biopharmaceutical industry after graduation and enhance my technical knowledge.
