SKUAST-K Admission Dates 2026

The 2026-27 admission route depends on the programme and seat category. ICAR AIEEA applies to the 15 percent All India Quota, while SKUAST-K UET and CUET are used for the 85 percent J&K domicile quota. BVSc and AH seats are allotted through counselling conducted under Veterinary Council of India directions.

SKUAST-K Courses and Fees

Students can choose from more than 14 undergraduate programmes, 65 postgraduate disciplines, and 55 doctoral disciplines. These courses cover agriculture, horticulture, veterinary science, forestry, fisheries, and agricultural engineering. General-category fees for most 4-year undergraduate programmes total INR 1.74 Lakhs.

B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence is a newer programme and follows a separate fee structure. SKUAST-K also teaches specialised subjects linked to the Kashmir agro-climatic region, including temperate sericulture and temperate horticulture, which are not commonly offered by other agricultural universities in India.

SKUAST-K Admission Process

SKUAST-K uses different examinations and counselling channels for undergraduate, veterinary, postgraduate, and doctoral admissions. Applicants must first meet the course eligibility conditions and then complete the entrance, counselling, document-checking, and fee-payment stages that apply to their programme.

UG Programmes (B.Sc Hons Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Sericulture, BFSc, B.Tech)

Under the undergraduate seat system, ICAR fills 15 percent of places through the ICAR AIEEA All India Quota and manages counselling for these seats. The other 85 percent are set aside for J&K domicile candidates and use SKUAST-K UET or CUET results.

• Applicants need 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics. The minimum aggregate is 50 percent, reduced to 40 percent for SC, ST, and OBC candidates.
• Stage 1: Take ICAR AIEEA UG for the All India Quota, or SKUAST-K UET or CUET for the state quota.
• Stage 2: Register for online counselling through the SKUAST-K portal.
• Stage 3: Enter programme and faculty choices in order of preference.
• Stage 4: Receive a provisional allotment according to merit rank and submitted choices.
• Stage 5: Complete document verification and pay the admission fee to confirm the seat.

For J&K General Category applicants seeking B.Sc Hons Agriculture or Horticulture through the state quota, closing ranks generally depend on domicile status and CUET performance. Seats are also offered under the NRI-sponsored category, which has a higher fee structure.

BVSc and AH

The Veterinary Council of India (VCI) governs admission to the BVSc and AH programme at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Shuhama. A valid NEET UG score is compulsory.

• Applicants must pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and secure at least 50 percent in aggregate.
• Every applicant must hold a valid NEET UG score.
• VCI handles counselling for All India Quota seats, while the state authority conducts counselling for seats reserved for J&K domicile candidates.

PG Programmes (M.Sc, MFSc, MVSc, M.Tech, ME)

For the national quota, postgraduate selection mainly uses the ICAR AIEEA PG examination. SKUAST-K holds a separate entrance test for domicile-quota admissions. A relevant undergraduate degree with at least 60 percent aggregate is required.

• Applicants must qualify through ICAR AIEEA PG or the SKUAST-K PG Entrance Test.
• After online registration, candidates take part in counselling and seat allotment on the university portal.
• Provisional allotments for the Autumn 2026 intake have been released.

PhD Programmes

Doctoral study is offered in 55 disciplines. Preference goes to applicants who hold a valid ICAR Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), while those without JRF may take the university's doctoral entrance examination.

• A relevant postgraduate degree with at least 60 percent aggregate is required.
• ICAR JRF holders receive preference during selection.
• Shortlisted applicants complete a written examination followed by an interview.

SKUAST-K Placements and Career Outcomes

As a government agricultural university, SKUAST-K does not follow the usual corporate campus-placement model. Its graduates move into government agriculture departments, ICAR research institutes, agribusiness companies, veterinary services, and forest services. Each faculty has a Career Counselling and Placement Cell (CCPC) that helps students connect with government employers, industries, and research opportunities.

Many BVSc and AH graduates enter the J&K Veterinary Services cadre or continue to MVSc programmes at ICAR and State Agricultural University institutes. Agricultural Engineering and Food Technology graduates find work with government departments, food processors, and agri-input businesses. B.Sc Agriculture and Horticulture graduates often join state departments or Krishi Vigyan Kendras, while others qualify through ICAR JRF and move into research.

Studying in the Kashmir Valley gives graduates regional experience in temperate horticulture, saffron production, sericulture, and the management of apple and walnut orchards. These specialised fields have active government and private-sector recruitment in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

SKUAST-K Rankings

SKUAST-K is listed by NIRF in the Agriculture and Allied Sectors category. Its national position improved from 10th in 2024 to 7th in 2025. Research output, patents, and student results contribute to its ranking record. The university has secured more than 100 patents and works with Japanese universities through international programmes such as LOTUS.

SKUAST-K Campus and Infrastructure

The 560-acre main campus in Shalimar, Srinagar, contains the Faculty of Horticulture, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, central administrative block, Central Library, and student hostels. Academic work is spread across five major locations in the Kashmir Valley, and the university's multi-campus reach also extends to Ladakh.

Its library network consists of 1 Central Library, 5 Faculty and College Libraries, 10 Research Station Libraries, and 8 KVK Libraries. Separate boys' and girls' hostels are available, with yearly charges ranging from INR 11,250 to INR 12,250. Hostel rooms include a bed, study table, almirah, and fan. Research farms, advanced agricultural laboratories, and facilities supporting 70 skill-development courses are also part of the university infrastructure.

At Shuhama, the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences operates a teaching veterinary hospital for Ganderbal district. The Rangil Faculty of Fisheries has aquaculture research ponds and fish-processing facilities beside a major water body. Mirgund's College of Temperate Sericulture is among the few Indian institutions devoted specifically to temperate silkworm rearing suited to Baramulla's agro-climate.

SKUAST-K vs SKUAST Jammu vs GBPUAT Pantnagar

Students shortlisted through ICAR AIEEA UG may consider SKUAST-K alongside SKUAST Jammu and G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. GBPUAT is India's largest agricultural university. The table compares factors relevant to undergraduate applicants.

Among the displayed figures, SKUAST-K has the highest NIRF position and provides temperate horticulture and sericulture programmes that GBPUAT does not offer. GBPUAT has the larger campus, a wider engineering selection, and stronger links with industries in the plains agribusiness sector.
