Madhya Pradesh Bhoj (Open) University (MPBOU), Bhopal, is a state open university set up by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1991. The university is named after Raja Bhoj, the 11th-century king, and teaches only through Open and Distance Learning (ODL). B.Sc Data Science and B.Sc Cyber Security are newer technology-focused UG programmes. Both have a total fee of INR 24,000, are AICTE-approved, and follow a structured blended ODL format. The MBA costs INR 18,000 in total and is among the most affordable UGC-DEB-recognised MBA-equivalent options in Madhya Pradesh.

MPBOU Admission Process

MPBOU gives admission directly, so students do not have to appear for an entrance exam. The application form is filled online through the MP Online portal. The university has two intakes, July and January. Most courses take new students in July, while January admission mainly supports lateral-entry or continuation students.

UG Programme Admission (BA, B.Com, B.Sc, BBA, BCA, BJMC)

For UG courses, students must have passed 10+2 from a recognised board. BA, B.Com, and B.Sc (General) do not have a minimum percentage condition. BBA and BCA may need 10+2 in any stream with at least 45% marks, depending on that year’s admission notice. Students choose their subject group and specialisation while filling the online form. Admission is direct, with no entrance test or merit list.

B.Ed Admission (NCTE-Approved ODL)

MPBOU offers the B.Ed programme in ODL mode with NCTE approval. Students need graduation with at least 50% marks, while reserved category students need 45%. The programme runs for 2 years and uses a blended model with contact sessions at selected B.Ed study centres in Madhya Pradesh. It is the only ODL B.Ed from a state university in MP recognised for MPPSC Teacher Recruitment Board (TRB) purposes.

MBA and MCA Admission

For MBA admission, any graduate with at least 45% marks can apply. No entrance exam is held. MPBOU offers Material Management along with the standard MBA specialisation options. MCA applicants must have studied Mathematics at the graduation level. Candidates with a BCA or B.Sc (IT) degree can apply for the 1-year MCA Lateral Entry programme.

M.Ed Special Education Admission

M.Ed Special Education admission is open to students who have completed B.Ed Special Education with at least 55% marks. The course is approved by RCI and is valid for jobs in special schools and rehabilitation centres. Students must submit the RCI eligibility certificate during admission.

PG Diploma Admission

Graduates from any discipline can apply for MPBOU PG Diploma courses.
