Gandhigram was established in 1947 by Dr.T.S. Soundram and Dr.G. Ramachandran. The Gandhigram rural institute is in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu and is a premier rural institute under The Ministry of Education. The institute is spread out, covering 200 acres of land in the green valley of Sirumalai.

The institute has been given a Deemed to be University status and has been given an A grade accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). GRI offers academic programmes in various disciplines such as UG, PG, diploma, and doctoral degrees. The institute secured 91st rank in the NIRF university rankings 2020.

GRI Placements

  • The college offers decent placement opportunities to its students. Professional courses have a better placement rate when compared to other programs.
  • The overall placement percentage ranges from 50 to 60 percent. Most students get placements in nearby companies and startups.
  • M.sc in food science has one of the best placements offered. About 80 percent of the students in the course got placements. The highest package offered was about 8.4 lakh.
  • The students who have scored higher in their respective fields have a better chance of getting placed.
  • The students get a chance to do internships after every six months with the help of the institute.

Ques. What is the criteria for international students to apply at GRI?

Ans. Foreign applicants need to have a valid visa to apply to the university. They also need a medical fitness certificate and certificate of financial security. Students from developing countries pay the same fee as Indian students, while students from developed countries need to pay four times the costs.

Ques. What are the Facilities and extracurricular activities at GRI?

Ans. The institute has a computer centre, Heath centre, yoga centre, gymnasium, WIFI campus, centre for international-relations, remedial coaching centres and various other facilities. They have multiple activities such as NSS (National Security Strategy), cultural cell, sports and games, yoga and Shanti Sena.
