MGKVP Admission Dates 2026

For the 2026-27 academic session, MGKVP uses CUET UG scores for undergraduate courses and CUET PG scores for postgraduate courses. Students applied through the Samarth admission portal at mgkvpadmission.samarth.edu.in. Counselling and seat allotment are being handled through merit lists and document verification.

MGKVP Courses and Fees

MGKVP offers more than 100 programmes in arts, science, commerce, law, education, fine arts, applied subjects, and vocational fields. Government-aided courses have lower fees, while self-financed and professional courses cost more.

Among its vocational choices, B.Sc (Textile Design) costs INR 45,000, and the Post Graduate Diploma in Fashion Designing costs INR 50,000. These courses add skill-based options to the university's state university course structure.

MGKVP Admission Process

MGKVP conducts admissions through a centralised online process on the Samarth platform. Eligibility, entrance exam requirements, and counselling rules differ for UG, PG, law, education, and Ph.D. programmes.

Undergraduate Admission (BA / B.Sc / B.Com / BCA / BBA)

• Eligibility: Students must have passed 10+2 from a recognised board. General arts courses do not have a minimum marks rule. B.Sc requires 45% in PCM or PCB
• Entrance exam: A valid CUET UG score is needed. BCA applicants must have studied Mathematics at the 10+2 level
• Process: Students register on the Samarth portal, add CUET UG scores and personal details, pay the application fee, and submit the form
• Counselling: Seats are allotted through merit lists, followed by university-level document verification

BA subjects such as Hindi, Political Science, and History usually have moderate CUET UG cutoffs. B.Sc seats are more competitive because laboratory seats are limited.

Law Programmes (LLB / BA LLB)

• 3-year LLB eligibility: Graduation in any discipline with at least 45%
• 5-year BA LLB eligibility: 10+2 in any stream from a recognised board
• Entrance: Valid CLAT score or state law entrance examination
• Selection: University-level counselling is based on merit

Postgraduate Admission (MA / M.Sc / M.Com / LLM)

• Eligibility: A bachelor's degree in the relevant subject with at least 50%
• Entrance: Most MA and M.Sc courses require a valid CUET PG score
• LLM eligibility: LLB with at least 55%. Admission is given on merit

B.Ed Admission

B.Ed admission is through the UP BEd Joint Entrance Examination (UP BEd JEE), which is conducted by Lucknow University for the state. Students need graduation with at least 50%, while reserved category students need 45%. Seat allotment takes place through state-level centralised counselling.

Ph.D. Admission

For Ph.D. admission, applicants need a postgraduate degree with at least 55% marks. Students with valid UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, or GATE scores are directly eligible for the next stage. Other applicants take the MGKVP Research Entrance Test and then attend a personal interview in the concerned department.

MGKVP Placements

Placement activity at MGKVP is stronger in professional and vocational courses such as BCA, BBA, BA LLB, and science-based programmes. In the university's NIRF 2025 data, 510 students from the graduating batch were placed. The median package was INR 3.5 LPA, and the highest package was INR 6 LPA.

Across all programmes, 1,236 students graduated, which gives an overall placement rate of 41%. The placement cell works with employers from IT services, banking, manufacturing, and education.

Recruiters such as HCL Technologies, IBM, Wipro, TCS, and Accenture visit for technology and BCA-related hiring. Many law graduates practise at the Allahabad High Court or prepare for judicial services examinations. MGKVP also has a long alumni base in Uttar Pradesh's administrative and education services.

MGKVP Rankings

MGKVP has an India Today ranking in the Government University category. It is not part of the current NIRF University ranked list, though the university submits yearly performance data to NIRF.

The university's NAAC B++ grade shows its performance in academic systems, infrastructure, student outcomes, and related areas. MGKVP is one of the older state-funded universities in Uttar Pradesh and continues to work on research and outreach.

MGKVP Scholarships

MGKVP helps eligible students from reserved categories and economically weaker backgrounds apply for state and central government scholarships. Applications are handled through the UP Scholarship portal and the National Scholarship Portal.

Fees are already highly subsidised in MGKVP's government-aided BA, B.Sc, and B.Com courses. The full BA fee starts as low as INR 6,180, so many SC and OBC students in these courses can receive near-complete support through Post-matric Scholarship. Higher-fee courses such as BCA, BBA, and BA LLB benefit more from NSP and state scholarship top-ups.

MGKVP Campus and Infrastructure

MGKVP's main campus is located in the Bhelupura area of Varanasi, near the Ganga riverfront, and spreads across 180 acres. The university also runs campuses at Gangapur, NTPC, and Bhairav Talab for selected departments and research centres.

Campus facilities include a central library with e-library access, science laboratories, computer labs, outdoor sports grounds under the sports council, an NSS unit, an NCC wing, and a student health centre. MGKVP also has a Mahatma Gandhi Studies centre and an incubation centre for student entrepreneurship.

Hostels are available separately for male and female students. Seats are limited, with preference usually given to outstation students and merit holders. Many students from Varanasi live outside the campus. Hostel blocks have canteen and mess facilities.

MGKVP vs VBS Purvanchal University vs DDU Gorakhpur University
