Amrita University Admission FAQs
Ques. Is B.Tech admission possible through the direct or management route at the Coimbatore campus?
Ans. Yes. A limited number of B.Tech management-quota seats are offered on a first-come, first-served basis to students who do not enter through the regular examination route. Applicants need at least 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12. AEEE or JEE Main is not compulsory for these seats, although an entrance score may help. The annual fee is INR 6 Lakhs, excluding hostel and other charges. Applications may be submitted online or by visiting the campus. These seats do not carry a scholarship.
Ques. What test scores can be used for admission to the main technical and management programmes?
Ans. The accepted examination depends on the programme:
| Program | Accepted Entrance Exams |
|---|---|
| B.Tech | AEEE or JEE Main, with SAT accepted for international students |
| M.Tech | GATE, which provides direct admission and a stipend |
| MBA | CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, GMAT, GRE, KMAT, NMAT or ACAT |
Ques. Can an admitted student move to another Amrita campus or change the chosen branch?
Ans. A campus change is not allowed after admission, so students must complete the course at the campus they selected. A branch change, such as ECE to CSE, may be considered after the first year. The student must clear the transfer cutoff with a CGPA above 8.5, and a seat must be available. Only a small number of students receive branch transfers.
Ques. May one applicant choose several Amrita University courses?
Ans. Yes. A student may select up to three courses in one online application. The applicant must enter the required details, list course preferences, upload the documents and pay the application fee. After submission, the university contacts the student about the next admission steps.
Ques. What academic qualification is needed to submit a Ph.D. application?
Ans. Applicants generally need a master's degree. Accepted qualifications include ME, M.Tech, M.Sc., MCA, MA, M.Com., MFA, MJMC, MSW, MBA, MD, MS, DNB, MDS, M.Pharma, Pharm.D., MS by Research, M.Phil. and M.Ed. An MBBS or BAMS qualification combined with a two-year postgraduate diploma also meets the stated requirement.
Ques. Does a NET score provide separate bonus marks in Ph.D. selection?
Ans. No separate extra weight is stated. The university prepares its merit list using the applicant's NET score or performance in the university entrance examination. Students on the shortlist must then attend a personal interview.
Ques. Is an Ayurveda degree available at the Coimbatore campus?
Ans. No. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Coimbatore does not offer an Ayurveda degree. Other centres of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham provide undergraduate and postgraduate Ayurveda programmes.
Ques. What reservation applies to SC applicants, and is their eligibility requirement reduced?
Ans. Government rules reserve 15% of the seats in every course for SC applicants. During counselling, reserved-category students receive seat allotment before general-category students. The university has not specified a separate relaxation in eligibility requirements for reserved-category applicants.
