Formerly known as Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education was established in 1984. The university is UGC and NBA approved, besides being accredited with NAAC Grade A++. In 2024, the NIRF ranked it at 36 for BTech, and at 50, overall. Outlook ranked it at 153, for the same.

Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education’s BTech is offered in 13 specialisations. The candidate should have completed 12th standard with 50%. Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology should be mandatory subjects. Candidates with PCM may apply to all specialisations, while those with PCB may only apply to Biotechnology and Food Technology programs. Selection is based on JEE Mains or Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education Entrance Examination Scores. The total fees of this four-year program ranges from Rs 4.58 Lakhs to Rs 7.98 Lakhs, based on the specialisation.

Scholarships for B.Tech courses are awarded based on merit in high school and JEE Mains. For JEE Mains ranks, B.Tech CSE, IT/ECE, and other courses offer scholarships ranging from 100% for top ranks to 40% for higher ranks. For percentage-based scholarships, B.Tech CSE offers 40% scholarships for 95% and above, IT offers 40% for 90%+, and ECE offers 50% for above 90%. Other B.Tech courses grant scholarships up to 50% for above 80%. For lateral entry students in non-CSE, IT, ECE courses, scholarships go up to 50% based on their percentage.

Kalasalingam University Placements witnessed the highest package being offered at INR 30 LPA, while the average package stood at INR 6.5 LPA. More than 1500 jobs were offered, along with 250+ internship offers. 150+ companies participated in the placement drive. Top recruiters included Accenture, Amazon, Capgemini, Cognizant, Mphasis, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, IBM, and Tata Consultancy Services.
