SASTRA University Admission Dates 2027

The 2027-31 B.Tech admission cycle will use JEE Main 2027 as the main admission score. The SASTRA admission portal for 2027-28 programmes is expected to begin from January 2027.

The entrance tests and selection methods used by SASTRA are listed below for each programme group.

SASTRA University Courses and Fees

SASTRA Deemed to be University offers UG, PG, and integrated courses in Engineering, Management, Law, Sciences, Fine Arts, Commerce, and Optometry. B.Tech fees are the same across all branches at INR 7.17 Lakhs for the complete 4-year course.

The B.Tech list includes newer study areas such as Electric Vehicle Technology, Smart Grid, Cyber Physical Systems, Blockchain and IoT, Electronics and VLSI Engineering, and Robotics and Automation with AI. Hostel charges are extra and range from INR 16,000 to INR 90,000 per year, based on the room type and occupancy.

SASTRA University Admission Process

Admission at SASTRA Deemed to be University depends on the course. B.Tech uses JEE Main rank, law uses CLAT or SASTRA Law Entrance Test, MBA uses management entrance scores, and several UG courses admit students through Class XII marks.

B.Tech

For B.Tech, students apply through the SASTRA online admission portal during the January to June window. Branch allotment is based on rank and the order of branch choices submitted by the student.

• Eligibility: Class XII with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with at least 45% aggregate
• Entrance requirement: Valid JEE Main score from Session 1 or Session 2
• Selection: Merit rank prepared from JEE Main All India Rank, followed by branch allotment as per rank and preference order
• Tamil Nadu Board students with strong Class XII marks may also be considered under the Tamil Nadu merit component
• Lateral entry to B.Tech 2nd year: Diploma in Engineering with at least 45% marks, with no entrance exam needed

For General Category B.Tech admission at SASTRA, JEE Main cutoff percentiles have usually fallen between 75 and 97 percentile, depending on the branch. CSE and AI/DS generally need higher percentiles, while Textile Engineering and Chemical Engineering have had broader eligibility ranges.

Law Programmes (BALLB Hons., BBALLB Hons., BComLLB Hons.)

SASTRA School of Law admits students through entrance scores, and its law programmes have Bar Council of India approval.

• Eligibility: Class XII pass with a minimum 45% aggregate
• Entrance exam: CLAT or SASTRA Law Entrance Test
• Selection: Merit based on entrance score, followed by document verification

MBA

For MBA admission, a student must be a graduate with at least 50% marks and must also have a valid entrance exam score.

• Accepted scores: CAT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, or TANCET
• Selection: Shortlisting through entrance score, then group discussion and personal interview

M.Tech

GATE-qualified students get preference for M.Tech admission and may qualify for AICTE-funded teaching assistantships. Students without GATE can also be considered through B.Tech marks and a department interview. SASTRA offers 17 M.Tech specialisations, and the full 2-year fee is INR 3.17 Lakhs.

UG Sciences, Commerce, and Arts

B.Com, BBA, BCA, B.Sc+M.Sc integrated, BA+MA, and BFA admissions are based directly on Class XII marks. These courses do not need a national entrance exam, and students apply online through the SASTRA portal during the application period.

SASTRA University Placements

In the 2025 placement season, SASTRA Deemed to be University placed 1,469 B.Tech students from 1,680 graduates, which gives an 87% placement rate. The median CTC for B.Tech was INR 8 LPA. For M.Tech, 51 students were placed and the median package was INR 5.5 LPA.

The placement cell works with IT, BFSI, and product-based companies. IT services recruiters include TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Cognizant, and Capgemini. Microsoft, Amazon, and IBM have also hired SASTRA students for technical and research roles.

SASTRA alumni work in software engineering, research, government services, and academics. CSE and ECE receive a large share of IT service and product company offers. Mechanical, Civil, and Chemical students get core opportunities in manufacturing, infrastructure, and oil and gas companies in South India.

SASTRA University Rankings

SASTRA Deemed to be University has NIRF 2025 ranks in several categories. It is ranked 29 among universities, 40 in Engineering, 11 in Law, and 51 Overall.

The university has a NAAC A++ grade with a CGPA of 3.76 out of 4.00 in the IV cycle, stated as the highest CGPA among private deemed universities of its type in Tamil Nadu. All eligible B.Tech programmes also have accreditation from the Institution of Engineers (India), and the MBA programme has Grade ’A’ TCS accreditation.

SASTRA University Scholarships

SASTRA Deemed to be University provides merit-based and need-based support for eligible students. Government scholarships for SC/ST, OBC, and Minority students are routed through the university.

GATE-qualified M.Tech students may also receive AICTE-sponsored Teaching Assistantship stipends. Students should apply through the National Scholarship Portal within the first month of admission to avoid delays in disbursement.

SASTRA University Campus and Infrastructure

SASTRA Deemed to be University is based in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, in the Cauvery delta region. The campus supports more than 13,000 students and brings together its schools of Engineering, Management, Law, Sciences, and Fine Arts in one connected academic space.

The campus has engineering and science laboratories for all 28+ B.Tech specialisations, along with a central library, digital classrooms, an auditorium, sports courts, and food courts. Its teacher-to-student ratio is 1:8.66. Separate boys’ and girls’ hostels are available, and hostel fees range from INR 16,000 to INR 90,000 per year, depending on the room type.

The School of Law has moot court halls, a law library, and a legal aid clinic. The Fine Arts School has facilities for Bharatanatyam and music, while the Optometry department uses a campus eye clinic for practical training.

SASTRA University vs VIT Vellore vs SRM University

SASTRA University, VIT Vellore, and SRM IST are private deemed-to-be universities in Tamil Nadu with major engineering offerings. Many B.Tech applicants compare them before choosing a campus.

VIT Vellore has higher NIRF positions in the University and Engineering categories and uses VITEEE for admission. SASTRA has the highest NAAC CGPA among the three at 3.76 and also has the strongest NIRF Law rank at 11. Its uniform B.Tech fee and JEE Main-based process remove the need for a separate B.Tech entrance test. SRM has a larger campus and a wider course range for students who want more academic options.
