SASTRA University Admission Updates

SASTRA University is inviting applications for admission to its UG, PG, and Ph.D programs for the academic session 2024-25. Interested candidates can apply through the official website.


SASTRA University is a private deemed university in Thanjavur which offers UG, PG and PhD programmes in multiple domains like Engineering, Management, Optometry, Arts, Fine Arts, among others. The university offers admission to all the courses strictly on the basis of merit. Two types of admission processes are followed for admission to technical courses.

  • Admission to BTech courses is granted both on the basis of marks in class 12 and on the basis of JEE Mains Entrance Exam.
  • For Admission to Law courses, CLAT exam scores will be considered.
  • For Admission to MTech and MBA courses, the candidates who qualify for the relevant entrance exams like GATE, CAT, MAT, etc will be given preference over the others.
  • Admission to other undergraduate and postgraduate courses is usually granted on the basis of marks obtained in class 12 and graduation.
  • The application forms are released on the university website in the month of April. Admissions are confirmed around June-July.
  • The university offers multiple online learning opportunities for those who could not complete their education through regular mode.
  • If the MTech or PhD candidates qualify for GATE and get admission through GATE score, they will be eligible to get a stipend of INR 12,400 per month.

The candidates who want to get admission through entrance exams like JEE will have to apply through Stream 1 application form, and the candidates who want to apply on the basis of marks in qualifying exam will apply through Stream 2 application form. The students will have to fill both the forms separately.

After the final merit list is released, the selected students will be informed and called for a counselling and document verification process. The students will have to be physically present for the same.

Though the university has not yet declared the admission dates for any courses this year, but they are expected to be released very soon.

SASTRA University Admission 2025: BTech

The admission to 70% of the BTech seats are allocated on the basis of both JEE Mains Percentile score and class 12 marks. These seats are called Stream 1 seats. The remaining 30% of BTech seats, which are called the Stream 2 seats, are allocated only on the basis of class 12 marks.

SASTRA University BTech Eligibility

  • The candidates must have completed 10+2 from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology/Biotechnology/Computer Science and English as compulsory subjects.
  • The candidates must score a minimum 60% aggregate score in 10+2 level. The scores of PCM subjects will be mainly considered for calculating the aggregate.
  • The Upper Age Limit for regular candidates is 19 years and that for lateral entry is 21 years.

SASTRA University BTech Selection Criteria

  • For Stream 1 candidates, 25% of the JEE Mains Percentile and 75% of Board Exam Marks will be considered for selection.
  • These candidates will be given a cumulated score after combining JEE and Board marks, and on the basis of this score, these candidates will be ranked by the University.
  • For Stream 2 candidates, the admission will be based on the 10+2 score. A writ list of candidates will be prepared accordingly.

SASTRA University BTech Cut-offs

Since the admissions are granted on the basis of the ranks of the candidates in the university merit list, the expected cut-offs are given in the form of closing university ranks. However, the cut-offs will vary from year to year.

BTech CSE Above 98% (minimum)
BTech Above Streams Above 90-95% (varies from year to year)

How to Apply for BTech?

Documents Required

  • JEE Mains Rank Card and Admit Card
  • Class 12 Marksheet and Certificate
  • Class 10 Marksheet

  • Photo ID Proof issued by the government

Application Process

  • The Candidates will have to go to the admissions tab of the university website. The forms will be released on this website.
  • The candidates will have to fill the Stream 1 and Stream 2 form separately, if they wish to apply for both the categories.
  • The forms can be collected offline from the university campus also.
  • The application fee of INR 600 must be submitted along with the application form.
  • In case of online application, the fees can be submitted through Debit/Credit card or Net Banking.
  • For offline application, the fees must be submitted in the form of cheque or Demand Draft along with the application form.

SASTRA University Admission 2025: MBA

The university offers full time MBA courses of 2 years duration. The admissions are granted on the basis of Merit; however, Entrance Exam qualified candidates will be given preference.

SASTRA University MBA Eligibility

  • The candidates must complete graduation from a recognised university or institution with minimum 60% aggregate marks.
  • The candidates with prior work experience and letters of recommendation will be given preference.
  • The candidates qualifying entrance exams like CAT, MAT, CMAT, etc will be given preference.

SASTRA University MBA Selection Criteria

  • The admissions are granted on the basis of Marks scored in Graduation.
  • The university will prepare a merit list on the basis of merit, but the candidates who have qualified Entrance Exams and have prior work experience will be given preference and hence will have a better rank.
  • After the initial selection, the shortlisted candidates will be called for counselling and interview.
  • The candidates who will qualify in the interview and document verification will be granted admission to the course.

SASTRA University MBA Cut-offs

There are no specific cut-offs for admission. However, the candidates should try to keep their graduation percentage above 70% and secure a good rank in entrance exams to ensure easy admissions.

  • The candidates will get the application form on the official website of the university.
  • The candidates must fill the form with proper details. The candidates must fill their marks and entrance exam ranks very carefully.
  • After filling the details, the candidates must pay the application fees of INR 600 through Net Banking or Debit/Credit card.

SASTRA University Admission 2025: Integrated MTech

The SASTRA University is known to offer reputed 5 yearlong Integrated MTech courses along with regular MTech courses in top streams like Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Cyber Security, IoT and Automation, Nano-Technology and many other disciplines.

SASTRA University Integrated MTech Eligibility

  • The candidates must complete the BE/BTech in relevant fields from a recognized institution.
  • The candidates must score a minimum 60% in their graduation.
  • The candidates who did not qualify in GATE will not get first preference. The candidates with a good GATE score will be preferred first.

SASTRA University Integrated MTech Selection Criteria

  • The merit list will be prepared on the basis of Marks scored in Graduation, but the candidates with GATE scores will be ranked higher.
  • The candidates who do not have a GATE score will be ranked after all the GATE scored students.
  • After the release of the merit list, the shortlisted candidates will be called for further selection rounds.
  • The candidates will have to appear in a short test on the day of their counselling. The test will be of 2 hours. It will include General Aptitude and Technical Questions.
  • The candidates who qualify in that test will be called for document verification.
  • The candidates found eligible in document verification will be granted emission to the course.

How to Apply for Integrated MTech?

Application Process

  • The candidates will have to fill the application form either in Online or in Offline mode.
  • The candidates will have to pay an application fee of INR 600 along with the application form.
  • The candidates will have to upload their graduation percentage and GATE score in the form provided.

SASTRA University Admission 2025: Law Courses

The admission to Law courses is granted on the basis of CLAT exam scores. The university offers BA LLB, BCom LLB, BBA LLB and LLM courses.

SASTRA University Law Courses Eligibility

  • The candidates must have completed 10+2 from a recognised board or university with minimum 60% aggregate marks for admission to LLB courses.
  • For admission to LLM courses, the candidates must have completed LLB courses from a recognised institution.
  • The candidates must qualify in CLAT exam to be eligible to apply for these courses.

SASTRA University Law Courses Selection Criteria

  • The candidates will be selected on the basis of a cumulative score which will be calculated on the basis of both CLAT score and qualifying Exam score.
  • For calculating the cumulative score, 25% of CLAT score and 75% of qualifying exam marks will be considered.
  • The candidates will be ranked on the basis of this calculated score.
  • The merit list will be prepared and released by the University. The shortlisted candidates will be called for the counselling process.
  • The candidates will have to qualify in an interview followed by document verification to get admission into the course.

How to Apply for Law Courses?

Documents Required

  • CLAT Score Card and Admit Card
  • Qualifying Exam (10+2 or Graduation) Marksheet and Certificate.

SASTRA University UG Courses Eligibility

  • The candidates must complete 10+2 in their respective streams from a recognised university.
  • The candidates must be above 17 years of age. The maximum age limit varies from 19 years to 21 years.
  • The candidates must have studies English as one of the compulsory subjects in 10+2
  • The minimum marks required for admission to UG courses ranges from 55% to 60%
  • For admission to B Optometry program, the candidates must be medically fit.

SASTRA University UG Courses Selection Criteria

  • Except the BTech and Law courses, Admission to all the other UG courses are done on the basis of marks scored at the 10+2 level.
  • The candidates applying for BFA courses may be required to submit their work samples for selection along with the 10+2 marks.
  • The merit list will be prepared by the university and the shortlisted candidates will be called for counselling and interview.
  • The candidates who successfully complete counselling, interview and document verification will be given admission to the course.

  • Candidates will be selected on the basis of marks scored in Graduation.
  • A merit list will be prepared by the university and released on the university website.
  • The shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. During the interview, the candidates may have to appear for a short test also.
  • The candidates qualifying the test and interview will be called for document verification.
  • The students found eligible during document verification will be granted admission to the course.

  • A candidate must complete a PG degree from a recognized university with minimum 55% aggregate marks.
  • Incase of Engineering, a candidate with minimum 75% aggregate in Bachelor’s degree course and who has qualified national level exams like GATE with a very good score are also eligible for admission to PhD courses.

SASTRA University PhD Admission Selection Criteria

  • The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of an entrance exam conducted by the university.
  • After qualifying in the entrance exam, the candidates will have to appear for an interview.
  • The candidates who qualify the interview will be given admission to the course.
  • The candidates who have qualified UGC-NET will not have to appear in the university entrance exam, however they will have to appear in the interview.

Ques. I wish to apply for BTech through both Stream 1 and Stream 2 categories from SASTRA University. Will I have to fill two application forms?

Ans. According to the SASTRA University website, the candidates are advised to apply for Stream 1 and Stream 2 separately. Hence, you will need to fill two separate application forms for applying through both the streams.

Ques. How will I get to know about the syllabus of the PhD Entrance Exam at SASTRA University?

Ans. After the applications for PhD courses, the candidates will get notified about the dates and syllabus of the entrance exam at SASTRA University. Also, the syllabus for the entrance exam will be released in the university website.

Ques. Are BTech students also eligible for a PhD course in SASTRA University?

This can be an alternative option insted os NLUs and IITs Has good faculty and good placement and wonderful campus life and college is a bit liberal in all aspects And the dress. Code are not stricter and the faculty are kind but not all the facilities there are lot of research scholars who also guide us in developing our CV

SASTRA is the research-orientated college and has good placements. The admission process is based on merit. The direct application needs to be applied for to get admission. Based on your academics, you may get the admission in the sastra.

Remarks:

The factors that made me choose sastra is its main focus on meritocracy that is they give preference to how much skilled and knowledgeable person you are in your academics and it's also more beneficial if you have good JEE score. Combined with JEE Score and +12 Score the admission rankings are out and based on those rankings' seats will be allotted in different branches.

Comparatively Less fee and admissions are based on merit so I have choosen. No, there are no group discussions, interviews or written tests for admissions. Admissions are fully based on merit i.e based on 12th marks and JEE MAINS marks. There will be 2 streams like Based on JEE Mains marks or JEE Mains +12th marks.

No entrance exam, interview, Group discussions for joining in the college. We have to apply through the college website www.sastra.edu then the process will started automatically by reviewing our Performance in the 12th standard and JEE(if applicable). Then the rank will be given according to the demand and rank you got they will assign you the department.

We had counselling, where our rank is decided with the 12 th board marks and entrance marks. And the the rounds of councelling will happen , at last spot counselling will be conducted . Then the course that we want will be alloted according to our preferences

Good placement, Infrastructure, knowledgeable faculty. Admission is based on 12th board exam and JEE main score. There is no entrance exam. Only focus on board exam and JEE to secure admission in this college

The admission is purely based on merit I came here with my board marks.there is also another scheme that students can get admission on their jee score.there is 4 to 5 rounds of councelling for getting admission it is based on the air,and tnr of this college

Most of my family members studied here and as a referral I preferred sastra university over another in my list and sastra is in nirf 39th for their engineering and 28th in their whole university stuff.

Remarks:

Admission is based on 12th class % and 12th %+ JEE percentile. The cutoffs keep changing depending upon courses. There is reservation for students from Thanjavur(10%)& Trichy(10%) & overall Tamil Nadu student (50%),also possible through NRI quota, Management quota.
