Central Rice Research Institute is one of the laboratories in ICAR's Crop Science Division. It was founded in 1946 by Dr K Ramiah, a prominent rice breeder. 

In 1966, administrative control of the institute was transferred to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Since its inception, the National Rice Research Institute (NRRI), Cuttack, has offered undergraduate internships and customized training programs to impart the latest rice production techniques to farmers. The Institute was renamed as ICAR-National Rice Research Institute (NRRI) in the year 2015.

  • CRRI Cuttack offers a three-year full-time PhD program in agricultural research.

  • Candidates can pay the online fees on CRRI Payment.
  • Interview selection is based on the UGC NET (JRF) / ICMR NET (JRF) entrance examination.
  • Prior to the interview, candidates must complete an application form.
  • Central Rice Research Institute offers the following training courses:
    • HRD program for six months duration (provision for dissertation for M.Sc./M. Tech./M.Phil./ equivalent degree)
    • HRD program for three years (with provision to work for PhD degree)
    • HRD training for up to six months (no provision for degree/diploma)

Ques. What is the full form of HRD in HRD training?

Ans. CRRI, Cuttack offers Human Resource Development ( HRD) training. 

Ques. Can a student apply without a fellowship?

Ans. For students who do not have any fellowship but have already appeared for an entrance examination (conducted by the university) and completed six months of coursework, the institute may grant admission based on academic performance. Such students will no longer receive scholarships from the Institute.

Ques. Can I patent my research?

Ans. The work done by the students should not be published anywhere without the knowledge of the guide. A patent can only be obtained in the name of CRRI (ICAR). 

Ques. What documents are required in the admission process?

Ans. The required documents during the admission process are:

  • Copies of SSC, HSC, graduation and post-graduation transcripts
  • UGC NET JRF exam scorecards, details and certificates must be attached to the application
  • Caste Certificate 
  • Conduct Certificate
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Migration Certificate (applicable for other state candidates)
  •  Color passport photo.
