Osmania Medical College (OMC) began in 1846 under the Nizam of Hyderabad and is among India’s oldest medical colleges. This government institution is based in Koti, Hyderabad, Telangana. State Quota students pay annual MBBS tuition of INR 30,000. OMC has no management quota, so its 250 MBBS seats and all postgraduate seats are assigned only through NEET merit counselling. MBBS graduates may continue to postgraduate study through NEET PG, and the three-year MD/MS programme at OMC has a total fee of INR 1,75,800.

Five years of MBBS tuition at INR 30,000 per year comes to INR 1,50,000 for a Telangana State Quota student. Hostel and mess costs are not included in this amount. The three-year B.Sc Allied Health programmes have fees between INR 85,000 and INR 1,05,000; options such as Radiology and Neuroscience carry the higher fee of INR 1,05,000.

OMC Admission Process

Admission to every medical programme at OMC follows NEET merit. The college does not offer donated seats, management-quota admission or its own entrance examination. Applicants register with the relevant counselling authority, enter their choices and receive seats according to their entrance rank.

MBBS Admission

Competition for the 250 MBBS seats is high. MCC handles 15 percent of the intake through the All India Quota, while KNRUHS conducts counselling for the remaining 85 percent under the Telangana State Quota.

  • Applicants must be at least 17 years old by December 31 of the year in which admission is sought.
  • NEET UG qualification is compulsory. The minimum requirement is the 50th percentile for General candidates and the 40th percentile for SC, ST and OBC candidates.
  • For the General category under the All India Quota, the 2025 closing score was 585 marks, linked to an All India Rank of 2,892.
  • The 2025 Telangana State Quota merit cutoff closed within the rank range of 18,000 to 20,000.
  • The counselling process covers registration, choice entry, seat allotment, reporting, verification of documents and payment of fees.

An MBBS degree from an NMC-recognised college and a valid NEET PG score are required for MD/MS admission. MCC allocates 50 percent of the seats through the All India Quota, and KNRUHS manages the other 50 percent as state-quota seats. Specialisation allotment depends on merit, without institutional preference.

DM and M.Ch (Super-specialty)

NEET SS determines admission to the super-specialty programmes. DM choices include Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Neonatology, Endocrinology, Medical Oncology and Clinical Pharmacology. M.Ch fields comprise Cardio-Vascular Thoracic Surgery, Neuro Surgery, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Surgical Gastroenterology and Paediatric Surgery.

B.Sc (Allied Health Sciences)

KNRUHS conducts state-level counselling for allied health science courses. Students from the Physics, Chemistry and Biology stream are admitted using their NEET UG scores. OMC Campus and Infrastructure

OMC occupies a campus in Koti, a central and well-connected part of Hyderabad. Its main academic building, laboratories and departmental blocks stand beside the Osmania General Hospital complex.

The attached OGH is a government tertiary care centre with more than 2,000 beds. It is among Telangana’s oldest and largest hospitals and serves as the main training centre for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Its departments expose learners to a high volume and variety of cases in medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics, oncology and neurology.

Separate on-campus hostels are available for male and female students. Academic facilities include large audio-visual lecture halls, anatomy dissection halls, upgraded laboratory blocks, skill labs, simulation facilities and a central library open for 24 hours. Founded in 1846, OMC has the longest history among the three and is linked to the largest hospital by bed capacity.
