Diploma holders can seek direct admission to the second year through B.Tech Lateral Entry in most specialisations. Since the institute has no hostel, students usually find accommodation in Sonarpur or other parts of South Kolkata.

MSIT Admission Process

Admission requirements at MSIT vary by programme. B.Tech seats are allotted through centralised counselling, while postgraduate applicants are selected using the entrance examination or merit rules set for their course.

B.Tech Admission

For regular B.Tech admission, applicants need at least 45% aggregate in Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Seat allocation for MAKAUT-affiliated colleges takes place through the WBJEEB joint counselling system.

  • Complete registration and submit the application through the WBJEEB portal.
  • Take the WBJEE written examination in May, or use a JEE Main score when applying for an all-India quota seat.
  • Join the MAKAUT counselling rounds in July, enter course and college preferences online, and wait for seat allocation.
  • Report to MSIT for document checks and confirm the allotted admission.

Diploma holders may enter the second year of B.Tech after qualifying through JELET, the lateral-entry examination administered by WBJEEB.

MBA Admission

Applicants to either MBA stream must hold a recognised bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks. MSIT first shortlists students using valid CAT, MAT, CMAT or XAT scores and then conducts a personal interview. Along with the general MBA, the institute offers the Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Venture Development specialisation.

MCA and M.Tech Admission

MCA selection uses either MAKAUT's entrance examination or merit in BCA or B.Sc Computer Science. Applicants must have studied Mathematics at the 10+2 or undergraduate level. For M.Tech, admission depends on the applicant's GATE score in the relevant discipline.

MSIT Placements

The MSIT Placement Cell coordinates recruitment for students completing B.Tech, MBA and MCA programmes. The latest season produced 298 job offers and an overall placement rate of 70%. B.Tech students secured a median package of INR 4.5 LPA, compared with a median of INR 4 LPA for postgraduate students.
