T.A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal has been a private management school in Karnataka since 1980. Part of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), it has AICTE approval and NBA accreditation. It also holds AACSB and AMBA accreditation, a combination found at only a small number of Indian business schools.
Management education at TAPMI covers postgraduate MBA specialisations, undergraduate study and an integrated degree. Its position in the NIRF 2025 Management ranking is 39th in India. Banking and Financial Services is its flagship MBA specialisation and records the institute's highest average placement package.
Manipal, a university town in Karnataka's Udupi district, is home to TAPMI's compact, purpose-built campus. Students have residential accommodation, computing laboratories and classrooms designed for learning through business cases. The institute also benefits from its connection with the wider MAHE campus. In the 2025 placement season, TAPMI reported 100% placement, an average annual cost to company (CTC) of INR 13.08 lakh and a highest CTC of INR 32.77 lakh, with more than 100 companies taking part.

The standard MBA fee of INR 20,10,000 is split into INR 10,35,000 for Year 1 and INR 9,75,000 for Year 2. Banking and Financial Services costs more because it includes additional industry certifications. For IPM, students pay INR 5,90,000 in Year 1, INR 5,50,000 each in Years 2 and 3, and INR 6,00,000 each in Years 4 and 5.
MBA selection at TAPMI involves 4 stages: checking eligibility, shortlisting through entrance scores, assessing candidates through GD/WAT/PI, and calculating the final combined score. GD means group discussion, WAT means written ability test, and PI means personal interview. TAPMI has no management quota.
For BBA {Hons.}, applicants must have at least 60% in 10+2. MAHE directly conducts admission through TAPMI MET or its entrance examinations. The merit assessment combines the entrance score with Class 12 marks.
| Programme | Accepted Entrance Tests | Minimum Academic Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| MBA, all specialisations | CAT, XAT, GMAT, NMAT by GMAC | Bachelor's degree with 60% aggregate; 50% for SC/ST applicants |
| IPM, BBA + MBA | IPMAT, IIM Indore; IPMAT, IIM Rohtak; JIPMAT; JEE Main; CLAT; SAT; TAPMI MET | 10+2, with 60% in both Class 10 and Class 12; English compulsory |
| BBA {Hons.} | TAPMI MET or MAHE entrance | At least 60% in 10+2 |
Work experience affects the CAT/XAT score considered for MBA shortlisting. Candidates with at least 24 months of experience follow a profile-based assessment, which considers their overall background.
| Work Experience | CAT/XAT Shortlisting Requirement |
|---|---|
| Less than 12 months | 90+ percentile, expected |
| 12 to 23 months | 80+ percentile |
| 24 months or more | Profile-based evaluation |
Every student in the MBA 2025 batch was placed, giving TAPMI a 100% placement rate. Offers averaged INR 13.08 LPA, while the highest reached INR 32.77 LPA. LPA means lakh rupees per year. More than 100 companies participated, offering roles across financial services, marketing, consulting, IT management and operations.
Among specialisations, Banking and Financial Services (BKFS) led with an average CTC of INR 14.73 LPA. The corresponding figures were INR 13.72 LPA for Marketing and INR 12.86 LPA for Human Resource Management (HRM). The BKFS curriculum's connection with financial services supports TAPMI's placement strength in banking and capital markets.
| Placement Measure | MBA Batch of 2025 |

| Students placed | 100% |
| Average annual CTC | INR 13.08 LPA |
| Highest annual CTC | INR 32.77 LPA |

Major recruiting sectors include banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), consulting, technology management, e-commerce and manufacturing. Recent recruitment seasons have brought HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Deloitte, Cognizant, Amazon, Tata Group companies and Infosys to TAPMI, along with several mid-sized FMCG and retail businesses.
With rank 39 in the NIRF 2025 Management category, TAPMI is among India's top 40 management institutions. It also belongs to a group of fewer than 5 Indian business schools holding both AACSB and AMBA accreditation.
| Ranking or Accreditation Organisation | Category | 2025 Rank or Status |
|---|---|---|
| NIRF | Management ranking | 39 |
| AACSB | International accreditation | Accredited |
| AMBA | International accreditation | Accredited |
| NBA | National accreditation | Accredited |
AACSB stands for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, while AMBA means the Association of MBAs. These organisations accredit business schools rather than rank them. Their accreditation recognises standards in the curriculum, faculty and career outcomes against international benchmarks. This is relevant to students considering careers outside India after an MBA.
In coastal Karnataka's Udupi district, the planned university town of Manipal provides the setting for TAPMI's campus. The compact site is devoted to management education. Facilities include classrooms for case-based teaching, a central library with business databases, computing and analytics laboratories serving BKFS and Data Science students, and a dedicated Bloomberg Finance Lab.
On-campus hostels accommodate all MBA and IPM students, making both programmes fully residential. The university-town setting supports focused study and close interaction among students. Other MAHE professional programmes on the larger Manipal campus add to this peer environment. The MBA calendar also includes regular industry sessions, talks by BFSI and consulting professionals, and live projects with partner organisations.
Incoming MBA students can receive merit-based support through the Dr. Ramdas M. Pai Scholarship programme, with tuition waivers reaching 100% for the highest-performing entrants. Students do not need to apply separately. Scholarship awards are communicated in the admission offer letter.
| Scholarship | Who Can Receive It | Tuition Support |
|---|---|---|
| Excellence in Academics and Practice Scholarship | The highest-performing students entering the MBA | Up to 100% tuition fee waiver |
| Achievers Scholarship | The top 5% of the incoming MBA batch | 20% tuition fee waiver |
| Future Innovators Scholarship | Entrants to MBA Technology Management or MBA Data Science and AI | 10% tuition fee waiver |
Students shortlisted at TAPMI often also receive interview calls from FORE School of Management in Delhi and KJ Somaiya Institute of Management in Mumbai. These national business schools occupy a comparable NIRF ranking tier, attract applicants with CAT or XAT scores in the 80 to 90 percentile range, and recruit for similar sectors.

AACSB and AMBA accreditation, deeper specialisation in BFSI, and residential study in Manipal distinguish TAPMI within this group. FORE benefits from Delhi's recruitment networks, while KJ Somaiya has access to Mumbai's employers. Both therefore offer stronger connections to metropolitan recruiting markets.
