What Is NMAT?

NMAT by GMAC is a computer-adaptive entrance test used by participating management programmes. It tests Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. GMAC conducts the examination; the colleges decide their own eligibility, shortlisting and admission rules.

You choose an available test-centre appointment within the examination window and can select the section order. This flexibility does not remove the separate section timers or a college's application deadline.

A test score is not an admission offer. For example, NMIMS takes a separate application and uses the first NMAT attempt, while another programme can have a different accepted-attempt policy.

NMAT 2026 Exam Dates

Both initial registration and initial scheduling close on 25 October 2026. Pay the registration fee and then complete the appointment booking; a payment receipt alone does not reserve a test date.

The test window runs from 2 November to 20 December. Retake registration and scheduling have a later closing date, but those windows do not extend the deadline for a first registration. The NMAT dates guide separates these actions and their deadlines.

NMAT Eligibility and NMIMS MBA Requirements

Eligibility depends on the management programme you apply to. NMIMS MBA and MBA HR require a recognised bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate. Do not apply this general MBA rule automatically to specialised Business Analytics, Digital Transformation or Pharmaceutical Management programmes.

Final-year candidates can be considered provisionally. They must complete the qualifying degree with the required marks and meet the admission-document conditions. NMIMS requires the qualifying examinations to be completed before programme commencement; a university examination extending beyond that point needs its consideration.

For NMIMS, the aggregate is based on all subjects taken in the degree, not selected high-scoring subjects. If your university awards CGPA, obtain its written equivalent percentage. Work experience can contribute to final merit, but it is not a substitute for the degree requirement.

How to Register for NMAT 2026

1. Create the NMAT account and verify the email address.
2. Enter personal, contact, education and work details as required.
3. Choose schools for score reports and upload a recent photograph that resembles you.
4. Pay the test registration fee.
5. Open Book Exam Slot and choose an available test centre, date and time.
6. Check the appointment confirmation and complete each chosen school's separate application.

The first five school score reports are included in registration. Additional reports cost INR 400 each plus taxes; a school can still charge its own application fee.

For NMIMS 2027 admission through NMAT 2026, submit the separate application by 25 October 2026, before taking the test. Its INR 3,000 application fee is non-refundable and is separate from the GMAC fee. The NMAT application guide covers the registration and booking steps.

NMAT Exam Pattern and Scoring

Each section has 36 questions, but Language Skills has only 28 minutes compared with 52 minutes for Quantitative Skills and 40 minutes for Logical Reasoning. You cannot transfer unused time to another section or return to a question after moving on.

NMAT has no negative marking, but the total is not calculated as three marks per correct answer. The adaptive system estimates ability and converts it to a scaled score. Each section contributes a score from 12 to 120; the total ranges from 36 to 360.

NMAT Syllabus: Subjects and Important Topics

In Quantitative Skills, build the arithmetic needed for percentages, interest and averages alongside number properties, equations, sequences, counting and probability. Data interpretation applies these ideas to tables, charts and caselets; data sufficiency asks whether the information is enough to decide the answer.

Language Skills combines reading with grammar, vocabulary relationships and paragraph order. In reasoning, distinguish an assumption or inference question from a puzzle that requires arranging people or objects under constraints.

GMAC does not assign a fixed chapter-wise question quota. Use the NMAT syllabus to cover the topic families rather than treating an unofficial weightage chart as a guaranteed paper distribution.

How to Prepare for NMAT

Use the official NMAT guide and practice tests to become familiar with the screen and pacing. A printed paper helps with concepts and worked solutions, but does not reproduce adaptive question selection.

NMAT Retakes and Rescheduling

A completed attempt with a valid score requires a gap of at least seven days before the next test. The 24-hour provision applies to No Show, NDA Refused or Exam Incomplete cases, subject to availability; it is not the normal gap after receiving a valid score.

Rescheduling moves a test you have not taken. It requires more than 72 hours before the appointment, a fee of INR 1,200 plus taxes, and a change within the rescheduling window.

Before paying for another attempt, check whether the intended college will use it. NMIMS considers the first NMAT attempt, so a later higher score does not replace it for that application.

NMAT Admit Card and Exam-Day Documents

The NMAT admit card becomes available seven days before the booked test. Download and print a fresh card for each attempt. For a 2 November appointment, that seven-day date is 26 October.

Accepted photo IDs in India are UID/Aadhaar, an Indian passport, PAN card, voter ID and driving licence. Carry an original, valid, non-expired document with a recognizable photograph. Learner's licences, photocopies and notarized copies are not accepted.

NMAT Result, Scorecard and Percentile

An unofficial score is shown after the test. The official scorecard is normally available within 48 hours; a security audit can take up to 10 working days. GMAC sends an email when the scorecard is ready to download.

The card reports the three section scores and total. A score of 240 out of 360 is not automatically the 90th or 95th percentile, and dividing it by 360 gives neither percentile nor an admission cutoff.

For a dated reference, GMAC's percentile table for tests taken from 5 November 2025 to 17 January 2026 places 233-234 at 90 percentile and 255-265 at 99 percentile. Those are historical comparisons, not guaranteed percentiles for the 2026 testing window.

NMIMS Admission After NMAT

NMIMS offers MBA at Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jadcherla (Hyderabad), Navi Mumbai, Indore and Ahmedabad. Mumbai also offers MBA HR, Business Analytics, Digital Transformation and Pharmaceutical Management; the specialised programmes have their own qualification requirements.

Keep all degree marksheets and the degree or provisional certificate ready. Applicants claiming work experience need employer and salary records. NMIMS counts eligible experience after graduation; internships, training, trainee roles, family business, self-employment and cash-paid experience do not qualify for its work-experience weightage.
