NMAT Selection Process: Exam and College Admission Are Separate

GMAC conducts NMAT, while each participating institution selects students for its own programmes. Registering for NMAT does not complete a college application. A school can set its own degree requirements, accepted attempt, cutoff and further assessment.

For NMIMS admission through NMAT 2026, complete both the GMAC registration and the separate NMIMS application. The current process leads to the 2027 admission batch.

The NMAT registration process covers the exam account and appointment. The school application remains a second obligation.

NMIMS Application Deadline and Fee

Use the GMAC registration number when completing the NMIMS form. NMIMS requires its registration before your scheduled exam; the current application deadline is 25 October 2026. Since NMAT testing begins in November, waiting for the score would miss that deadline.

Review the form before final submission. NMIMS does not permit changes after it has been submitted. Save the application generated after successful payment rather than treating a payment attempt alone as a completed form.

The NMAT calendar distinguishes registration, scheduling and retake windows. A later retake date does not extend the NMIMS application period.

NMIMS Programmes and Shortlisting

NMIMS uses the first NMAT attempt. Shortlisting considers section scores and the total for candidates who completed the required application. A later higher score does not automatically replace the first attempt.

The programmes do not all share the same degree eligibility. MBA and MBA HR accept a recognised bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate; the specialised programmes have additional qualification conditions.

NMIMS will offer 30% of MBA programme seats to female candidates. Programme eligibility and the selection process still apply.

NMIMS Second Stage: Competency Test and Personal Interview

Shortlisted candidates attend the second stage in person. It may include a competency test and/or a personal interview; NMIMS will provide the detailed arrangements with the selection communication.

Download the call letter from the candidate dashboard. NMIMS says it will not send the call letter by email or post. Carry the NMAT scorecard for the selection stage and follow the appointment instructions in the letter.

Group discussion and written-ability tests are not listed as compulsory NMIMS stages for this cycle. For the NMAT personal interview, prepare examples from your academics, projects and employment that you can explain in detail.

Final Merit, Preferences and Seat Allotment

Final merit considers performance in NMAT, the personal interview and competency test, along with academic performance and valid work experience. NMIMS determines the cutoffs; fixed percentage weights should not be assumed without a current announcement.

For candidates applying to more than one programme or campus, allotment also depends on the final preferences and seat availability. A shortlist call does not guarantee the first preference, and a high NMAT total alone is not the final merit score.

The NMAT scorecard supplies the examination scores. Admission decisions are separate from the score release.

Which Work Experience Counts for NMIMS?

Work experience is considered after graduation, and more than one year receives weightage under the stated rule. The employer must appear in both the GSTIN and TAN databases.

Do not combine an internship with later employment and label the entire period full-time eligible experience. Keep the joining dates, graduation completion, role status and salary records separate. A trainee title or cash salary can change whether a period counts even when the candidate worked for several months.

The experience claim is verified. Prepare the employer certificate and salary evidence for the period actually claimed rather than reporting a longer rounded duration.

Documents Required for NMIMS Admission

Scanned records are submitted for admission, with originals required for verification before the programme begins. The name on Aadhaar and the NMIMS registration/admission form must match.

If a university uses GPA or CGPA, obtain the equivalent percentage in writing from that university. Internet copies of marksheets require attestation by the principal with the official seal, or self-attestation.

Final-year candidates can apply provisionally, but must pass the qualifying degree with the required aggregate. All subject examinations should be completed before the programme starts; a university examination scheduled during or after commencement requires NMIMS consideration.

Selection at Other NMAT-Accepting Colleges

For another school, identify the exact programme and intake before applying the NMIMS process to it. Its accepted attempts, interview format and application deadline may differ.

Sending an NMAT score report only shares the test result. It does not establish degree eligibility, submit the school's admission form or reserve a seat. Compare the specific programme conditions before deciding whether another attempt or another application will be useful.
