Most MA and M.Sc applicants take the Vidyasagar University Merit-cum-Aptitude Test (VUMAT). MBA admission uses the management paper of VUMAT, while MCA applicants must hold a valid WBJEE JECA score. M.Tech selection is based on GATE or a university-level entrance test.

Two admission phases are held each year. The second phase is used to fill vacancies left after the first merit list.

LLB and LLM Admission

The five-year LLB accepts students from any 10+2 stream with at least 45%, followed by an entrance test. For the one-year LLM, applicants need an LLB from a BCI-recognised law school with a minimum aggregate of 50%.

Ph.D. Admission

Ph.D. applicants need a postgraduate degree with 55%. The university holds the Research Entrance Test twice a year and then conducts an interview before the relevant departmental committee. Applicants who hold a valid NET/GATE qualification with JRF do not have to take the RET.
