University of North Bengal Admission Process

The application route depends on the level of study. Undergraduate applicants use the West Bengal Centralised Admission Portal (WB-CAP), while postgraduate applicants apply through NBU's admission system. Selection for PG courses uses qualifying examination marks and entrance tests where required. Each department decides when its classes begin.

  1. Check the qualifications and minimum marks needed for the chosen programme.
  2. Use WB-CAP for the centralised UG route or register through NBU's PG admission portal for postgraduate study.
  3. Choose the course and complete the application with personal, academic and document details. For the NBU PG application, upload the photograph and signature as instructed.
  4. Review the information, confirm the application and complete the required fee payment and submission.
  5. Follow the relevant merit list, entrance test and counselling requirements for admission.

BCA, BBA, BCom and BA

For undergraduate courses in Computer Applications, Management, Commerce and Arts, WB-CAP prepares merit lists using Class 12 results. The university also accepts CUET UG scores from the 2026-27 admission cycle.

  • Applicants need Class 12 in the relevant stream with at least 45% overall. The minimum is 40% for SC/ST students.
  • Selection uses the WB-CAP merit list, with Class 12 marks forming the composite score, or a CUET UG score.
  • All seats are filled through the centralised process; there is no management quota.

MBA

Alongside General Management, NBU's MBA has five specialisations: Marketing, HR, Finance, Operations and Systems.

  • A graduation degree in any discipline with at least 45% overall is needed. SC/ST applicants need 40%.
  • Accepted entrance routes include CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT and the NBU Admission Test.
  • Selection considers both the entrance score and marks in the qualifying degree.

MA and MSc

Applications go directly through the NBU PG portal. Graduates from NBU-affiliated colleges have 60% of seats reserved for them, while the remaining 40% are open to applicants from other universities. Qualifying degree marks determine merit, with a departmental entrance test used where applicable.

BA LLB Hons, 5-year Integrated Law

Students must pass Class 12 with 45%, or 40% for SC/ST applicants. Admission uses CLAT or the NBU Law Entrance Test. Across 5 years, students study BA subjects together with law papers and earn the LLB degree from University of North Bengal.

University of North Bengal Placements

BCA, MBA, BBA and MSc Computer Science account for much of NBU's campus recruitment activity. NIRF 2025 records placements for 92 students, comprising 39 UG and 53 PG students. The median annual salary was INR 2.95 LPA for 2-year PG courses and INR 2.4 LPA for 5-year UG courses. LPA means lakhs per annum.

Recruiters visiting the university include TCS, Wipro, Infosys, IBM, HDFC Bank and ITC. Tea companies such as ITC, Goodricke and Tata Tea recruit BSc Tea Science and Tea Management graduates directly on campus. IT businesses and financial services firms also employ many BCA and MBA graduates.

A large share of NBU students prepare for government careers through state Public Service Commission examinations, including WBPSC, and central UPSC examinations. This preference helps explain why campus placement numbers are modest compared with total enrolment.

University of North Bengal Rankings

NIRF 2025 places NBU in the 51 to 100 band within the State Public University category. Its NAAC assessment in 2022 awarded a B++ grade and a CGPA of 2.82.
