Calcutta University Admission Process
Calcutta University follows different admission methods for UG, PG and professional courses. CUET scores are not used for admission. Seats are filled through open merit, and there is no management quota.
UG Admission (BA / B.Sc / B.Com)
For UG courses at Calcutta University and its affiliated colleges, selection is based only on Class 12 or equivalent exam marks through the centralised online WBCAP portal.
- Selection uses a merit index based on:
- Marks in Best of 4 Subjects + Marks in the Opted Honours Subject
- No entrance exam, no interview, and no management quota
For popular General Category subjects such as Economics, English and Political Science, Class 12 cutoffs usually fall between 75% and 85%. For competitive courses such as Physics Honours and Computer Science Honours, students often need 85% or more in relevant papers.
PG Admission
Calcutta University conducts MA, M.Sc and M.Com admission through its own online portal. Usually, both Calcutta University applicants (Part-A) and applicants from other universities (Part-B) have to appear for a PG entrance test. If the number of applications for a course is equal to or lower than the available seats, the university may not hold the test for that course.
- 80% of the total intake is reserved for the 2-year PG program
- 20% of the seats are reserved for lateral entry candidates
- Within the 80% seats for the 2-year PG program
- 60% are reserved for Calcutta University (Part-A) candidates.
- 40% are reserved for Non-CU (Part-B) candidates.
- Merit Preparation
- Part-A: 50% Entrance Test + 50% Hons/Major marks (up to 5th Semester).
- Part-B: 100% Entrance Test marks.
Ph.D Admission
- For PhD admission, students need a Master's degree with at least 55% marks, or 50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates, along with a valid qualifying exam score.
- PhD applicants must have NET JRF, NET LS, GATE, SET, or SLET qualification.
- The final selection is based on a research proposal presentation and a departmental interview.

Course Curriculum Overview:
The FYUGP BCA syllabus is impressive, covering modern and trending subjects like AI and data analytics. However, the faculty lacks proper expertise and practical knowledge to teach these subjects effectively.
Remarks:
I chose this university because it offers a good BCA program that matches my interests. I had to attend an interview during the admission process. However, the semester exam timetable is quite rigid, which is inconvenient.

Course Curriculum Overview:
The College has excellent faculties. They are all masters of their respective subjects. One thing that sets them apart for is how they treat the students; they are all really nice and supportive. The College ensures to take a background check of teachers before appointing them as a faculty member at the College. They teach very thoroughly by using diagrams, flowcharts, and tables whenever required. They also share PDFs which has syllabus relevant information and it really helps students during exams and in general. My personal bonding with teachers is good since I attend the College regularly and respect them. Student can easily rely on them without taking any other coaching outside the College since they are very approachable and always ready to resolve doubts and problems faced by the students.

I choose this cource because in 12 th i studies commerce so that why i take this cource and i am intrested in accountant Then the teachers for this is good i understood that they teaching we have douts they will clear all in very well and the fees for the course is 12600 per sem

Course Curriculum Overview:
As an ardent literature student, I have always wanted to pursue this all my life. Be it Virginia Woolf or translatory pieces of Rabindranath, stories have never failed to amaze me. I knew what I wanted, which quite led me into taking up this course. The faculty is extremely talented. They highly qualified, experienced, cooperative, who turned out to be of great help to students in finishing their curriculum. Exams and everything are decided by the University of Calcutta, to which the college is affiliated. They are mostly timely but run a little late in terms of the academic calendar. (15-25 days) The exams are moderately difficult and require needful preparations. Previous years question papers prove valuable for it.
Placement Experience:
In our CBCS batch, we did not have enough internship opportunities. However, in the new CCF curriculum, mandatory internships are included in the curriculum. Our batch did have the opportunity to to attend a wide range of workshops and seminars that were regularly organized by the college. (Gender sensitization, review of culture and arts and so on)

I really liked what I studied in college, and the programs there are not that bad. All the teachers are good friends.And exams will be held every six months.And the place is a good place and the people are good

If you have to say something good about the college, it's good. The teachers taught well. That's the good thing about it.And what's wrong with it is the problem with its management. Management is not enough.

Course Curriculum Overview:
Course curriculum is excellent and well understanding.Highly qualified faculties are available. Many of them taking PHD.Term exam and internal exams and lab exams are conducted on correct time. Exam difficulty level May varie from moderate to tough level.
Remarks:
The college is academically excellent, there has many university rank holders. And well expanded library and lab facility is available but this college is run in a rented building. College's real building construction is on going.
