Calcutta University Admission Updates
Calcutta University Admission 2026 follows two admission paths. UG admission for the university and its affiliated colleges is done through WBCAP on the basis of Class 12 marks. PG admission is handled by Calcutta University through its own merit process and entrance test. B.Tech has a total program fee of INR 38,035, while UG and PG application fees are paid separately during registration.
Calcutta University is a state university and does not offer admission through management quota. Seats are allotted through merit-based counselling or departmental entrance tests, depending on the course.
- Calcutta University does not use CUET scores for any course. UG admission is done through WBCAP.
- 80% of PG seats are kept for graduates. The other 20% seats are meant for lateral entry PG admission.
- B.Tech admission is based on WBJEE scores, while M.Tech admission is based on GATE scores.
Admission Update 2026:
- UG: WBCAP Phase 2 was completed on July 16, 2026. Phase 3, Mop-Up 2 application window was August 8 to 10, 2026.
- B.Tech: WBJEE Result was declared on June 18, 2026. Seat Allotment Result for Round 3 was completed, and classes were expected to begin in August.
- PG (MA, M.Sc, M.Com): The application deadline was July 25, 2026. Classes began on August 5, 2026.

Calcutta University UG admission is carried out through WBCAP for the university and its affiliated colleges. BA, B.Sc and B.Com admission is based only on Class 12 marks. Students do not have to sit for an entrance test, group discussion or interview for these courses.

Calcutta University UG Selection Process
WBCAP prepares merit lists by subject and institution for CU-affiliated colleges. Seats are allotted online through counselling.
- Students enter their preferred colleges and subjects on the WBCAP portal in priority order.
- Merit index includes:
- Marks in Best of 4 Subjects + Marks in the Opted Honours Subject
- Seat allotment depends on merit rank and available subject-wise seats in each affiliated college.
- Students who get a seat must confirm it online and report to the allotted college within the given time.
- Upgrade rounds give students a chance to move to a higher preference if a seat becomes available.
How to Apply for UG at Calcutta University?
- Register at wbcap.in with Class XII roll number and board details.
- Pay the application fee of INR 400, or INR 200 for SC, ST and PwD candidates, through online payment.

Calcutta University PG Admission 2026
Calcutta University conducts MA, M.Sc and M.Com admission through its own online admission portal. Students usually have to take the PG entrance test, whether they are Calcutta University Part-A applicants or Non-CU Part-B applicants.
The university may skip the entrance test for a course if the number of applicants is equal to or lower than the number of available seats.

Calcutta University offers M.Tech admission through the University College of Science, Technology & Agriculture (UCSTA). The university has 19 M.Tech specialisations under Regular (Section A), Working Professional (Section B) and Sponsored categories.
Selection is based on GATE score, interview or both, depending on the program. GATE-qualified students admitted to Regular seats can also receive the AICTE stipend of INR 12,400 per month.
