CISCE has published the prescribed-book list for the ICSE 2027 examination. The clearest fixed list is for English and the language subjects. For many other subjects, CISCE gives the syllabus but does not name one compulsory textbook.
The school book list should match the subject, examination year and language option selected by the student.
The official appendix separates Class 9 and Class 10 portions. Students preparing for the 2027 board examination should follow the Class 10 portion and the exact edition named in the school list.
| Area | What CISCE prescribes |
|---|---|
| English Literature | Julius Caesar, Acts III to V; Class 10 stories and poems from Treasure Chest |
| English Language | No specific background-reading book is recommended |
| Indian and foreign languages | Books vary by language and are given in the official appendix |
| Mathematics, Science and other subjects | Use the official syllabus; CISCE does not name one textbook unless the subject document says so |
The Class 10 Literature in English course uses Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare for Acts III, IV and V. It also uses Treasure Chest: A Collection of ICSE Short Stories and Poems, published by Evergreen Publications (India) Ltd.
| Book | Class 10 portion |
|---|---|
| Julius Caesar | Acts III, IV and V |
| Treasure Chest – prose | With the Photographer; The Elevator; The Girl Who Can; The Pedestrian; The Last Lesson |
| Treasure Chest – poetry | Haunted Houses; The Glove and the Lions; When Great Trees Fall; A Considerable Speck; The Power of Music |
The prescribed books change with the language. The official appendix covers Indian languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu, along with approved foreign-language options. A student should use only the books for the language registered by the school.
For these subjects, the syllabus is more important than the publisher name. A school may choose a textbook that covers the CISCE units, but the board question paper follows the official syllabus. The latest subject PDF should be checked before buying an extra guide or question bank.
The full topics are on the ICSE 2027 syllabus page. The 2026 question papers show how several subjects are split into separate papers.
Julius Caesar is prescribed. Class 10 covers Acts III, IV and V.
