CISCE has released the ISC Class 12 syllabus and examination rules for 2027. The 2027 timetable is not out. The 2026 written papers ran from 12 February to 6 April, so a similar period can be used as a tentative guide until CISCE publishes the new schedule.
ISC is the Class 12 examination for students studying the two-year ISC course at CISCE-affiliated schools. English or Modern English is compulsory. Students also take four or five elective subjects chosen in Class XI.
The ISC 2027 regulations and subject-wise syllabus are available. They confirm the subject choices, attendance rule, pass rule and improvement option. CISCE has not released the 2027 timetable, admission card or result date.

A first-time candidate must study at a CISCE-affiliated school and complete the two-year Class XI and XII course. The school enters the candidate for the examination. Direct private entry is not allowed.
The usual attendance requirement is 75% in each year. When attendance is below 75% but at least 60%, the school head may ask CISCE to consider the shortage. CISCE can consider attendance below 60% only in the exceptional cases stated in its rules, such as serious illness or authorised participation in recognised sports, arts or cultural events.
| Part of the course | 2027 rule |
|---|---|
| Compulsory subject | English or Modern English |
| Elective subjects | Four or five |
| Maximum subjects | Six including English or Modern English |
| Pass certificate | Pass standard in five or six subjects, including English or Modern English |
| SUPW and Community Service | Pass grade required |
The pass mark is 35% in a subject. A student cannot add a Class XII subject that was not studied in Class XI. Some combinations are also not allowed, such as Mathematics with Applied Mathematics and Robotics with Artificial Intelligence.
The mark split changes by subject. English, Mathematics, Accounts, Economics and many Humanities subjects commonly use an 80-mark written paper with 20 marks of project work or internal assessment. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and some practical subjects commonly use a 70-mark theory paper with 30 marks of practical work.
The exact paper length, sections and marks are printed in each subject syllabus. In the 2026 timetable, most papers lasted three hours and students received 15 minutes to read the questions before writing time.
The ISC syllabus page explains subject-wise coverage. Prescribed English texts are on the ISC books page. Available subject papers are kept on the ISC 2026 question-paper page.
