The above-mentioned PU CET Exam Pattern 2023 Sectional Weightage is based on the previous year's exam pattern, and it is subject to change as per the decision of Punjab University.
The PUCET exam consists of four subjects, namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. Each of these subjects carries an equal weightage of 60 marks, making the total marks of the exam 240. Candidates should focus on all the subjects equally and prepare accordingly to score well in the exam.
For detailed overview it’s given in the table format below:
| Subjects | Mark allotted/ Weightage |
|---|---|
| Physics | 60 |
| Chemistry | 60 |
| Mathematics | 60 |
| Biology | 60 |
| Total | 240 |
The PUCET exam is conducted in offline mode, i.e., pen and paper-based, and the duration of each subject paper is 70 minutes. Candidates should manage their time efficiently to attempt all the questions within the given time frame. It is recommended to allocate time to each subject based on the difficulty level and their strengths and weaknesses. Candidates should also keep in mind the negative marking scheme while attempting the questions.
The time allotted for each subject is given in the below table:
| Section | Time |
|---|---|
| Physics | 70 min |
| Chemistry | 70 min |
| Mathematics | 70 min |
| Biology | 70 min |
| Total | 280 min |
Multiple-choice questions are standard in the PU CET. Candidates should only select/mark one answer from the available four options. There are a maximum of 120 marks available, with each question carrying two marks.
The grading system uses a negative marking system. Out of the total replied responses, 0.5 or 25% of the total marks will be deducted for each erroneous response. Unanswered questions will not be penalized or given fewer points.
| Subject | Total Questions | Marks per Question | Negative Marking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | 60 | 2 | 0.5 marks were deducted for each incorrect response |
| Chemistry | 60 | 2 | 0.5 marks were deducted for each incorrect response |
| Biology | 60 | 2 | 0.5 marks were deducted for each incorrect response |
| Mathematics | 60 | 2 | 0.5 marks were deducted for each incorrect response |
Note that the negative marking of 0.5 marks for each incorrect response means that one-fourth of the marks allotted for that question will be deducted for an incorrect response.
PUCET 2023 will consist of questions from the 11th and 12th syllabus of Punjab University. The subjects from the Science stream that will be covered are Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and/or Mathematics. Candidates can choose subjects according to the course chosen by them.
