UIET Chandigarh Admission Process
BE Admission
Applicants to the BE programme must have studied Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects in Class 12. The required aggregate is at least 60 per cent for General Category applicants and 45 per cent for SC/ST applicants. Admission depends entirely on the JEE Main score and is handled through JAC Chandigarh.
- Appear for JEE Main and obtain a valid score.
- Register through the JAC Chandigarh counselling portal.
- Enter and lock the preferred colleges and engineering branches.
- Take part in the centralised online seat-allotment rounds.
- After receiving a seat, report to UIET for document verification.
The seat matrix includes UT Chandigarh domicile, All India (CBSE), NRI or NRI-sponsored, and Defence under UT domicile categories. Seats within the UT Chandigarh domicile quota are allotted first.
ME and M.Tech Admission
A relevant BE or B.Tech degree with at least 60 per cent marks is required for ME and M.Tech admission. The minimum is 55 per cent for SC/ST applicants. UIET first considers candidates who hold a valid GATE score in the appropriate engineering discipline. If seats remain after accommodating GATE-qualified applicants, non-GATE candidates may be selected through the PU CET (PG) merit list.
- Apply to UIET with the relevant GATE or PU CET PG score.
- Wait for the institute to publish the merit list.
- Attend document verification when shortlisted.
- Join spot-round counselling if vacant seats remain.
Ph.D. Admission
For Ph.D. admission in Engineering, applicants need an ME, M.Tech, or equivalent postgraduate qualification. They must also qualify through GATE or the Panjab University Research Entrance Test (PURET). Shortlisted applicants present a research proposal before a departmental committee. Panjab University announces Ph.D. intake rounds periodically.
UIET Chandigarh Placements
More than 100 companies from IT services, core engineering, BFSI, consulting, and other fields take part in UIET placement drives each year. The 2025 season placed 325 students and achieved a placement rate of 78.4 per cent. Cisco offered the highest package of INR 24.73 LPA, while the average package was INR 8.5 LPA.
| Metric | 2025 | 2024 | 2023 |

Cisco, American Express, Deloitte, ZS Associates, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), and L&T are among the institute's leading recruiters. CSE and ECE receive the greatest recruiter interest and account for the largest placement volumes, while IT is also in demand. Students from Mechanical and Electrical Engineering enter public sector undertakings, core manufacturing companies, and IT roles.

UIET Chandigarh vs PEC Chandigarh vs CCET Chandigarh
UIET Chandigarh, Punjab Engineering College (PEC), and Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET) are the three main government-sector engineering choices in the tricity for applicants using JAC Chandigarh counselling. All three institutions admit BE students on the basis of JEE Main scores.
| Parameter | UIET Chandigarh | PEC Chandigarh | CCET Chandigarh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Status | Constituent of Panjab University (Central) | Deemed to be University (Central) | Government institution under the UT Chandigarh Administration |
| Established | 2002 | 1921 | 1961 |
| NIRF Engineering Rank (2025) | 93 under Panjab University | 101 to 150 band | Not ranked |
| BE Total Fees (General) | INR 5.23 Lakhs | Higher under deemed university fee norms | Lower due to UT Administration subsidies |
| Highest Placement Package | INR 24.73 LPA in 2025 | - | - |
| Degree Granted by | Panjab University | PEC, through its deemed university status | Panjab University |
| PG Programmes | ME and M.Tech across 9 specialisations, plus Ph.D. | M.Tech and Ph.D. | Limited |
Among the three, UIET has the highest stated NIRF Engineering position for 2025 and the broadest postgraduate selection, with nine ME and M.Tech specialisations. PEC, established in 1921, has a longer institutional history and alumni network and operates as an autonomous deemed university. CCET has the lowest fee structure because of UT Administration subsidies, which can suit applicants who give priority to cost.
