Chandigarh University student-athletes have contributed three of India’s four gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, with their performances coming in 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team, Women’s Kabaddi and Men’s Kabaddi events.
The athletes have played a key role in India’s gold-medal campaign, with Chandigarh University represented across both kabaddi teams and the shooting event.

Pushpa Rana Leads India to Women’s Kabaddi Gold
Chandigarh University athlete Pushpa Rana, who captained the Indian women’s kabaddi team, led the side to a 37–34 victory over Iran in the final. With the win, India successfully defended its Asian Games women’s kabaddi title.
Rana’s leadership was part of a closely fought final, as India held on to secure another gold medal for the country.
CU Athletes Help India Retain Men’s Kabaddi Title
India also won gold in the men’s kabaddi event after defeating Iran 39–35 in the final. Chandigarh University was represented in the gold-winning squad by:
- Pawan Sehrawat – Vice-Captain of the Indian men’s kabaddi team
- Aslam Inamdar
- Ashu Malik
Their presence gave Chandigarh University representation in both of India’s gold-winning kabaddi teams at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Suruchi Singh Wins Gold in Shooting
Suruchi Singh added another gold for India in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event. Her medal took Chandigarh University’s contribution to three gold medals out of India’s four gold medals won so far at the Games.
24 CU Athletes Competing Across 12 Sports
Chandigarh University has sent a 24-athlete contingent to the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. The athletes are competing across 12 sports, with the university already making its mark through three gold-medal performances.
Reacting to the performance, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chancellor of Chandigarh University, said:
“It indeed is a proud moment for all of us that Chandigarh University athletes have won 3 Gold Medals out of the total 4 Gold Medals won by India.”
Sandhu also highlighted Chandigarh University’s earlier achievements in university-level sports. The university became the first university in India to win the Khelo India University Games title for two consecutive years. Before that, it became the first private university in the country to win the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy.
With three gold medals already contributing to India’s campaign, Chandigarh University athletes have emerged as a major part of the country’s performance at the 2026 Asian Games.
