Chandigarh University marked Engineers’ Day with the launch of Build Summit 2026, a technology summit based on the theme “Innovating for Bharat.” The event brought together engineering students, industry experts and technology professionals from areas including AI, mobility, semiconductors, cybersecurity, agritech, energy and infrastructure.
The summit featured a series of practical competitions and demonstrations, including the byteBuilt 1.0 24-hour hackathon, Innovision technology exhibition, RC Off-Road Robo Race and Aerial Ops–Drone Challenge.

41 Teams Participate in byteBuilt 1.0 Hackathon
As part of Build Summit 2026, Chandigarh University organised byteBuilt 1.0, a 24-hour innovation hackathon in collaboration with byteXL. The competition brought together 41 teams comprising 135 students from 16 universities across India.
Participating institutions included Chandigarh University, Jaypee University of Information Technology, SRM University, KIET Ghaziabad, Lovely Professional University, GD Goenka University, Chandigarh University Uttar Pradesh, Panjab University, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Narasaraopeta Engineering College, St Mary's Group of Institutions Guntur for Women, Mahendra Engineering College, ITM (SLS) Baroda University, Shobhit Institute of Engineering and Technology, Chitkara University and Universal SkillTech University.
Chandigarh University’s MediSphere Wins Hackathon
Team MediSphere from Chandigarh University won the first prize in byteBuilt 1.0. The team developed an AI-powered healthcare platform for educational campuses.
MediSphere connects students, doctors, pharmacies, parents and emergency services through one platform. Its features include:
- AI-based symptom assessment
- Emergency SOS support
- Digital medical records
- Doctor connectivity
- Medicine delivery
Dabang Coders from Panjab University secured the second prize, while Chandigarh University's CodeBliss won the third prize.
Drone Challenge Winners to Work on UAV Development
The Aerial Ops–Drone Challenge focused on drone-based solutions. Harry Tanwar won the first prize, followed by Arush Singh in second place and Navjosh Singh and Anurag in third place.
The three winners will work on developing UAVs for border surveillance in collaboration with Johnnette Technologies Private Limited.
Robo Race Winners to Develop Autonomous Vehicles
The RC Off-Road Robo Race saw Techab, Viksit Velocity and Baba Group secure the first, second and third positions, respectively.
The winning teams will get an opportunity to work on autonomous vehicle development in collaboration with industry.
50+ Chandigarh University Innovations Displayed
The technology exhibition, “Innovision,” showcased more than 50 student projects from Chandigarh University. The projects covered areas such as:

- Drones and aerospace
- Robotics
- Sustainable mobility
- Healthcare and MedTech
- Agri-Tech
- Cybersecurity
- Blockchain
- Infrastructure
- Advanced materials and nanotechnology
Some of the projects included AeroClairr's autonomous drone platform, HydroDrive and HydroHybrid's solar-charged hydrogen hybrid vehicle, HydroGelRx's controlled drug delivery system, StrataCC's 5G Edge AI network traffic management system, and RegenABS's regenerative braking and anti-lock braking system for electric vehicles.
Industry Experts Highlight Role of Young Engineers
The summit brought together experts from technology, energy, mobility, manufacturing, cybersecurity and infrastructure. The speakers included Dr Arun Kumar Nayak, former Head of the Nuclear Controls and Planning Wing, Department of Atomic Energy; Gursharan Singh, Senior Vice President, Backend Operations, Micron Technology; Swapnil Jain, Co-Founder, Ather Energy; CB Ojha, Chief Engineer, Engineering Department, PWD, UT Chandigarh; and other industry representatives.
In his keynote address, Dr Arun Kumar Nayak spoke about the role of engineers and scientists in India's development. He said innovation and research would be important for India's goal of becoming a $35 trillion economy and achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047. He also proposed that Chandigarh University take the lead in establishing a Centre for Nuclear Studies to train young engineers in nuclear power and related technologies.
Gursharan Singh of Micron Technology said that AI, advanced manufacturing, automation and digital technologies are changing engineering, while stressing that technology should address meaningful problems and improve people's lives.
Jai Inder Singh Sandhu, Managing Director, Chandigarh University, said the Build Summit was focused on using available tools and resources to develop solutions for real-world problems. He also highlighted the role of young people, infrastructure and innovation in India's development.
Swapnil Jain, Co-Founder, Ather Energy, said India had moved from being a country of assemblers to one of builders over the past decade. He highlighted opportunities for young engineers to take risks, build products and work with industry to solve practical problems.
CB Ojha, Chief Engineer, PWD, UT Chandigarh, said future engineering solutions should consider questions around sustainability, inclusivity, resilience and public service along with technical feasibility.
RK Jain Receives Bharat Nirman Samman
As part of the Engineers’ Day celebrations, RK Jain, former Chief Engineer, PWD Haryana, was felicitated with the Bharat Nirman Samman Award for his contribution to engineering.
The Build Summit combined student competitions, technology demonstrations and industry interaction, with the participating teams also receiving opportunities to work on selected projects with industry partners.
