The National Testing Agency has revised the JEE Main 2025 exam pattern and discontinued the option questions in Section B. This year onwards, Section B for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2A (B.Arch), and Paper 2B (B.Plan) will have five questions for each subject, without any options. Appearing candidates must answer all five questions in the section. The update ensures the return to the original JEE Main exam format after the changes made during the COVID-19 pandemic.

JEE Main 2025 Exam Pattern Revised, Option Questions Discontinued in Section B

Background

NTA has conducted the JEE Mains exam since 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the authorities modified the paper pattern, adding an option facility in Section B for each subject. Candidates were allowed to choose any five questions out of a total of ten in Section B of each subject. This measure aimed to accommodate the challenges faced in the pandemic and remained in place until the 2024 exam.

Key Changes for JEE Main 2025

The World Health Organization marked the end of COVID-19 pandemic as a public health emergency on May 5, 2023. Therefore, the NTA has decided to revert to the original exam patterns. Here are the key points regarding the changes:

  • Discontinuation of Optional Questions: For the JEE Main 2025, Section B of each subject will consist of only five questions, and candidates must attempt all five without any option for selection.
  • Exam Papers: This change applies to all papers, including Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2A (B.Arch), and Paper 2B (B.Planning).

The revised exam pattern means that candidates must prepare to tackle all questions in Section B. They need to adjust their study strategies accordingly, focusing on comprehensive understanding and mastery of the subjects, rather than selectively preparing for potential questions. The detailed exam pattern will be included in the Information Bulletin for JEE Main 2025. It will be released soon, during the online application registration process. Candidates are encouraged to stay updated by regularly visiting the official NTA websites:
