The Supreme Court of India has permitted students who have withdrawn from their academic course between November 5 and November 18, 2024, to appear for the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Advanced 2025.
Background of the Case
22 students had filed a writ petition challenging JAB's decision on limiting attempts to JEE Advanced to two. Earlier on November 5, 2024, it was announced by JAB that students from Class of 2023, 2024, or 2025 would be allowed to attempt the exam thrice. But on November 18, 2024, JAB changed its decision and reduced the maximum attempts to two.
During this 13-day period, many students got stranded since they had dropped courses to focus on preparing for the JEE Advanced. The Apex Court bench composed of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih ruled in the favor of students, as acting in good faith based on JAB's promise it made at initial stages.
The court did not concern itself with whether the decision was illegal but indicated that students should not be punished because of the sudden change of policy.

Examination Details
The exam will be conducted in 222 cities across India and 2 international locations. Candidates must attempt both papers to qualify for admission to IITs.
