Likes
- I like the 24 hour campus. Which basically means that you can spend time alone or with your friends in almost the entire campus all the time. Lights remain on at night and it is so much peaceful to walk at 2am at night.
- The people/faculties here are mostly awesome. So you will meet interesting personalities here as your faculties, peers and sometimes even as vendors. I had some great experiences with meeting amazing people randomly on campus and they taught me a lot.
Dislikes
- Now that the number of students is increasing, the indoor sports complex and the gymnasium is a bit small for the crowd and they need to make another one soon.
- The food here is only decent and you get bored of it.
Remarks :
My experience here has been awesome. The admission process is simple: they offer two opportunities per year to fill the form, during fall and during summer. You have to give an exam or CUET results also work. The cut off is not like solid, it depends on the interview post the first selection from the exam scores. They usually take like 2-3 percent students from among the total forms that get filled up but the percent keeps decreasing as this university is getting popular. I did not prepare for the exam but I was good at the fundamentals and I found that they look for honesty and curiosity in the interview process. The only bad thing I found about this university is that I do not like their sustainable approach to every event. For example their decorations for any event is mostly sustainable and that limits the kind of decorations possible. They also do not allow sponsorships for college festival so it is not super grand like IIT's.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose this course because I got good grades in maths in school :) but here it is totally different. They don't focus on memorizing formulas but rather on the depth of the concept and the skill of being able to understand the problem and break it down for the answer to reveal itself. The faculties are highly qualified. I got faculties from foreign universities and top Indian Institutes. The teaching method is inquiry based for the first year and then turns to lecture based. But one thing remains the same that the classes are intense and hence require a lot of active participation to get the most out of them. There are two main exams: Mid term exam and end term exam which usually constitute around 50 percent of the total grade. While the remaining 50 percent comes from projects, assignments, class participation and quiz. The difficulty level is intermediate level. Mostly you can pass by knowing the fundamentals but will really need to have a good practice to get awesome grades.
Internships Opportunities :
I did an internship kind of thing with the University Radio but the internship culture has just boomed here since last batch because of the new education policy. I currently have no information regarding the opportunities and the stipend information.
Placement Experience :
This university takes placements very seriously, hence the process begins like almost 1 year prior to the graduation. Their record for placements is high like 95% plus students sitting for placements get a job. They focus on the social sector mainly and hence many social organizations choose to hire from here. I do not have any data for the highest package offered, but I know that some postgraduates get 7-8 lpa. While the average package ranges from 4.8 to 6 lpa. I have friends earning 5-7lpa, though most of the undergraduates prefer to go for higher studies. I plan to go deeply into music, art and intimacy therapy. And I found my passion for these fields while studying here since the place allows for a very wide range of experiences. A lot of my fellow-mates who graduated from here are currently studying in IV league colleges like Cambridge, etc.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
This is the fee structure for the batch who joined in 2022 and since I am continuing an extra year in the college, I have to pay the same fees. But for the new students joining in the year 2025, total fees including hostel charges will be 398000. Since it is a residential program. University website has this in detail, including the financial aid that they provide. But to briefly explain, I would say that if your family income is less than 12 lakhs per year, you are eligible for scholarship. They do not give merit based scholarship but they give need based scholarship.
Campus Life :
Annual festival "Unmukt" usually happens during March April. The other festival 'Katha' which is a dance festival takes place in the month of May. There are other events like National Social Enterprise Idea Challenge and Film festival which are gaining popularity recently and hence the timings vary. Library here is awesome. It is probably the best thing here other than the professors, at least for me. It has more than 1 lakh books and plenty of online research resource access. The best part is that it has wide range of subjects from Law to zen to astronomy, tantra, economics, etc. Classrooms are equipped with projectors and good vibe. Rich sport and extracurricular activity catalog with non competitive and inclusive approach. There are many clubs that are active: music club, film club, anime club, etc. This university takes LGBTQ+ rights and equality very seriously and hence they have facilities like gender neutral washrooms and a whole floor in the hostel which is gender neutral.
Hostel Facilities :
All the undergraduate students stay on campus, unless there's some serious medical reason. We have the world's tallest hostel building and all students live in the same building, irrespective of the gender. There are floors assigned to each gender and we can not go to the other genders floor. You can play late night games with your female friends in the common area, watch movies together, cook food together, etc. Food quality is decent. There are multiple outlets to buy food from and I enjoy some of the food items they offer. Menu is pretty simple, like thali for lunch and dinner while in breakfast you get south Indian dishes and some north Indian items like puri bhaji. I pay around 80,000 per year for hostel room. I have one roommate. There are common washrooms on each floor and a pantry to cook some food and fetch hot, cold and normal water. There is laundry service available and it is included in the fees so you don't have to pay extra to use it.
