JSS Medical College and Hospital (JSSMCH) began in 1984 under JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru. It is a constituent college of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSSAHER), a UGC-recognised deemed-to-be university. JSS Medical College Admission Process

Admission requirements vary by programme. Medical degrees use national entrance examinations and central or state counselling, while JSSAHER manages applications for allied health and selected postgraduate programmes.

MBBS Admission

Selection for MBBS depends only on NEET UG performance. JSSMCH does not hold a separate entrance examination or interview for this course.

  • Applicants must complete 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Biotechnology. The minimum aggregate is 50% for the General category and 40% for SC, ST and OBC applicants.
  • Students must be at least 17 years old on December 31 of the admission year.
  • First, obtain the required qualifying percentile in NEET UG.
  • Next, register for MCC counselling for the 15% AIQ seats or KEA counselling for the 85% Karnataka state quota seats.
  • Finally, report to JSSMCH for document checking and payment of the admission fee.

MD / MS / PG Diploma Admission

NEET PG scores decide admission to all postgraduate medical programmes. The All India Quota and Karnataka state quota each receive 50% of the seats.

  • Applicants need a valid MBBS degree from an NMC-recognised college and must finish the compulsory rotating internship.
  • First, secure the necessary NEET PG rank.
  • Then, take part in MCC AIQ counselling or KEA Karnataka state quota counselling.
  • After allotment, complete the joining requirements at JSSMCH.

NEET PG competition is especially strong for Dermatology, Radiodiagnosis and General Medicine. When management quota seats are available, the college allocates them directly under JSSAHER's management quota rules.

DM / M.Ch (Super-specialty) Admission

Applicants for a super-specialty programme must qualify through NEET SS and MCC counselling. A relevant MD or MS from an NMC-recognised institution is compulsory. JSSMCH provides DM training in Gastroenterology, Nephrology and Neurology, along with M.Ch courses in Urology and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

B.Sc Allied Health Sciences / BPH / BOT

These undergraduate courses require 50% in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Applications are submitted online and handled directly by JSSAHER. Under NMC-linked admission guidelines, eligibility for some allied health courses also depends on a valid NEET UG score.

MPH / M.Sc / M.Phil.

For MPH and M.Sc, students need a relevant undergraduate degree and the minimum marks set by JSSAHER for the chosen course. M.Phil. Clinical Psychology applicants must hold a postgraduate Psychology degree, pass the JSSAHER entrance test and attend a personal interview.

JSS Medical College Placements and Career Outcomes

JSSMCH does not use a standard campus placement system. Graduates generally move into government service, postgraduate medical training or private practice.

After internship, Karnataka requires MBBS graduates from private colleges to complete a one-year service bond at a government or rural health facility. This service pays a monthly stipend of INR 50,000 to INR 70,000. A graduate who does not complete the bond must pay the financial penalty set by state rules.

Career Stage / PathwayTypical CompensationNotes
Compulsory Rotating InternshipINR 12,000 to INR 18,000 per month as stipendOne year at JSS Hospital and compulsory before NEET PG
Karnataka Mandatory Service BondINR 50,000 to INR 70,000 per monthOne year in rural or government service, with a financial penalty for default

Interns gain experience from a heavy patient load at JSS Hospital, which has more than 1,800 beds and over 40 active departments. Their rotations include Emergency Medicine, Surgery, Medicine, OBG, Paediatrics and other units. This clinical work also helps them prepare for NEET PG.

JSS Medical College Rankings

JSSMCH regularly appears among India's ranked private medical colleges. JSSAHER moved from 24th in 2024 to 21st in 2025 in the overall NIRF category, an improvement of three positions.

JSS Medical College Campus and Infrastructure

The 43-acre Bannimantap campus in Sri Shivarathreeshwara Nagara, Mysuru, brings together JSS Medical College, JSS Hospital and allied health facilities. The attached tertiary care teaching hospital contains 1,800 beds, more than 40 clinical departments, a round-the-clock trauma centre, separate operation theatre complexes and specialist units for Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology and Nephrology.

Male and female students have separate hostel blocks. The central library provides medical and para-medical resources as well as digital access to MEDLINE, Cochrane and other databases. Training and research facilities include anatomy halls with cadaveric resources, clinical skills simulation laboratories and a dedicated research block.

Mysuru is 150 km from Bengaluru and has road and rail connections. The Bannimantap campus is 4 km from Mysuru City Railway Station, which makes travel convenient for students from outside the city.
