Likes
- I like the pond in the campus. Its very soothing and peaceful when I sit beside it.
- The food is great in the canteen and there is also a snack bar thing where we can get coffee to regain our focus.
Dislikes
- The toilets are very dirty and are not maintained on daily basis which raises concerns of diseases.
- The campus doesnt have enough trash bins and most places remain dirty with trash.
Remarks :
I chose B. Borooah College mostly because it was practical. It's a well-known name here for science, the fees are really low, and it's close to my home in Guwahati. It felt like a solid, no-fuss choice. Getting in was simple. There was no entrance exam, group discussion, or interview. Admission is purely based on your 12th board exam marks. After results, you submit your form and mark sheet. They release a merit list based on a cutoff percentage. If you're above it, you're in. I just prepared for my boards, that was the only hurdle. The good things are the knowledgeable teachers who actually help if you ask, the affordable cost, and the genuine crowd. The bad things are the old infrastructure, no placement help, and a pretty barebones campus life with limited activities. It's a trade-off, but it gives you a decent degree without the debt.
Course Curriculum Overview :
So look. The course is the regular BSc thing. Chem, botany, zoology. I picked it because it was the obvious choice after 12th science. Not too much thought behind it really. Just kept my options open. The teachers are a mixed bag. Some are great. They know their stuff and explain things clear on the blackboard. You can talk to them after class. Others just read from old notes and you tune out in five minutes. Most have PhDs and have been here forever. They teach the old way. Chalk and talk. Exams are always on time. You get a schedule and they stick to it. The tests are fine. Not too easy, not too hard. If you study the usual stuff they point out, you'll pass. You can't just show up and write though. That's it. That's the whole review. The course is standard. The teachers are some good some boring. The exams happen when they say they will. Nothing fancy. Just a normal degree.
Internships Opportunities :
Internships through B. Borooah College? Honestly, that's not really a thing they offer or organize. There's no structured internship program tied to the BSc courses. I haven't opted for any, and I don't personally know anyone in my batch who got an internship directly through the college. They don't have company tie ups or a cell that helps you secure one. Any internship you might hear about is because a student found it on their own online or through a personal contact. There's no list of companies, no defined roles, and definitely no information about stipends coming from the college. Any project work you do is purely academic and part of your syllabus or lab practicals like a prescribed chemistry experiment or a botany specimen project. Those are just for marks, not real-world tasks. So if you're coming here expecting the college to connect you to internship opportunities, you'll be disappointed. You're completely on your own to search, apply, and find something outside.
Placement Experience :
Placements At B. Borooah College for a BSc Forget it. There's no placement scene like you hear about. No companies come for recruitment drives. The so-called placement cell just puts up notices for government job ads or maybe a local pharmacy needing a helper. I've never seen a single big name visit campus to hire BSc grads. So there's no list of recruiters, no number of offers, and definitely no talk of high packages. Zero students get placed from here in that way. The plan after the degree is everything. For me, it's going for an MSc. For others, it's preparing for government exams, doing B.Ed., or applying to labs and hospitals directly. This college gives you the valid degree, the ticket to sit for other exams or apply further. It doesn't get you a job. It makes you eligible to go find one yourself. Your future is 100% in your own hands after you walk out.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fees are the best part. I'm general quota. For BSc, it's around ?3,000-4,000 per semester total, not monthly. That's mostly tuition. A small one-time admission fee, maybe a few hundred. Tiny extra charges for library or lab. It's very light and hasn't increased much. SC/ST/OBC students pay even less with good concessions. I don't know their exact amount but it's a solid discount. For scholarships, the college helps you apply for state government schemes. If you get one, it can cover all fees and sometimes give a small stipend. You have to apply yourself when notices come. So if you want a proper degree with almost no financial stress, this is the place. It's seriously affordable.
Campus Life :
Life on campus is low-key and simple. You come for class, spend breaks at the canteen or by the pond with friends, and head home. There are no proper clubs, just informal hangouts. The big highlights are Rongali Bihu in April and the Annual Sports Meet, which actually bring the place to life. The library has old books, classrooms have just benches and a blackboard, and sports mean the field and concrete courts. Everything from notes to gossip happens on WhatsApp. It's a quiet, slow-paced place to study and make a few real friends, not a buzzing activity hub.
Hostel Facilities :
I don't stay in the hostel, so I can't give you the inside scoop from personal experience. I live with my parents here in Guwahati, so I just commute. But from what my friends who do stay there tell me, it's pretty basic. The hostel buildings are old, rooms are shared between two or three people, and the facilities are minimal think a bed, a table, and a shared bathroom down the hall. The mess food is the standard hostel fare: simple dal, rice, sabzi, roti, with the quality and variety being just okay. It's affordable, which is the main draw – the fees are very low, just a few thousand per semester including mess charges. To apply, you have to put in a form during admissions, and seats are allotted, usually giving priority to students from outside Guwahati. Most students who stay are from other districts.

There are teachers under which u can work and later they can surely help u land a intership, happened with one of my friend. But as of now department dont directly provide u internship. I dont wanna say vague or old numbers about average or highest placement data, so wont comment on it but overall its not that great but there are exceptions, like there are some brilliant minds who lands an enormous off campus placement.(My 2 seniors who r out of india right now) Last year Bharat electronics BHEL came and took 8 seniors for 13lpa package, some banking companies and TCs comes too. There are 100% internship in Bsc agriculture are also good the average packages 3 to 4 LPA the highest package is 12 LPA percentage of students getting placements are about 70 - 80% the eligibility criteria depends upon the performance of the student on its practical work and its CGPA

The ratio of placement and job is very poor, this is a college of general degree course, so after passing B.Sc., B.Sc. one does not get a job directly, in future one has to do Masters degree, PhD.But data from the last three/four year revealed that students did get jobs in SBI and some other organization, but the percentage was very low.That is why most of the students after completing normal graduation take admission in courses like Masters and BEd, Deled.And my plan in future is to do Masters from IIT or IISER, after that I want to do PhD.

Life as a BTech Student at IIT guwahati
Placement Experience :
there is a CPI criteria of around 6 to sit for placements. The highest packages for bachelors can go up to 1.5cr. Companies in coding include Google, Amazon, Flipkart, Ola, Uber, finance companies like JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and many more. Highest paying companies are AlphaGrep, Quadeye, JaneStreet but that is very competitive with only people with the best results and from CS getting in. Many people also receive preplacement offers after internships. There are also many companies that visit for product management roles like Ola, Meesho etc. The placement process for Design students is separate. There are also core companies like Texas instruments, that visit.

I choose this course because I am interested in learning coding and I want to seek my future in this line. I am finding some difficulties in understanding the subjects and topics but I believe it is because I am new to this field and new to everything.
