- since we all live in college this is a very big family with ample opportunities. It is difficult for a person to get bored because there is always something or the other happening. I was a part of our cultural fest for three years and that led to a lot of personality development. I am also a part of our debating society and that has taught me a lot about public speaking and opening up and expressing your thoughts. Overall college has led to a lot of personal growth and social skills. I used to be very shy and introverted before college but now I do not have problems speaking to any random person regarding any kind of work.
- Personally I like the level of research here. I have identified some professors who are exceptional at their field and some of them are also very good teachers and I consult them from time to time regarding my career path. I am also doing projects under professors and they are supportive. What one needs to do is to speak to professors early on if one needs to pursue a career in research.
Dislikes
- There are some courses which I find redundant. I feel that there should be a lot more flexibility in choosing courses and in choosing electives. We do not have electives in our branch until final year. also I would love if there would be a chance to convert audit courses into credit. For example I am not interested in electronics that much and find those courses very boring. I would prefer if I could replace those courses with something like general relativity which is not taught at the undergraduate level.
- even though the hostels have basic necessities, some hostels are remarkably better than others when it comes to mess, canteens etc. All these facilities should be nearly uniform across all hostels.
Remarks :
Firstly qualified JEE Mains with around 99 percentile. Then Got in through JEE Adv qualification, rank of 4997. After that sat for JOSAA counselling where you have to put preference of IITs and courses. For that you have to refer to previous year cutoffs to get an idea about what IIT and stream you will get. Chose Engineering physics because I want to choose career in physics research and wanted a BTech degree (not BSc degree like IIT Kgp, kanpur).
Course Curriculum Overview :
I want to pursue higher studies and research in physics and that is why I opted for this subject. I went for a BTech degree because I wanted to keep the options of getting into other industries open. The engineering physics degree includes a lot of electronics as well like analog, digital, semiconductors etc. other than that there are core physics subjects including emphasis on quantum physics. The professors are all very well established in their fields and experts in their subject with most of them having a strong research profile. Some professors are not that great at teaching but they are mostly all knowledgeable. The options for electives comes in the last year where one can choose for a departmental or an open elective. Overall the course is challenging but not very difficult. Some professors really take in the effort to make the studying a holistic process by including projects but that depends from person to person.
Internships Opportunities :
I am currently applying for research internships in India and abroad. In India there are internships by TIFR, RRI, Indian Academy of Sciences etc. Internships in research are lowpaying, with around 20,000 per month. For people sitting for the official internship process the internship amount is around at least 80,000 per month. Around 300 people have got internships this year out of thousand people. The highest paying internships are over 10,00,000 for the entire duration of three months. Around four people have gotten such internships. One needs to sit for OAs and then qualify interviews for internships. CV shortlisting is done for only few companies. One needs to have a good coding profile and logical reasoning for coding internships.
Placement Experience :
there is a CPI criteria of around 6 to sit for placements. The highest packages for bachelors can go up to 1.5cr. Companies in coding include Google, Amazon, Flipkart, Ola, Uber, finance companies like JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and many more. Highest paying companies are AlphaGrep, Quadeye, JaneStreet but that is very competitive with only people with the best results and from CS getting in. Many people also receive preplacement offers after internships. There are also many companies that visit for product management roles like Ola, Meesho etc. The placement process for Design students is separate. There are also core companies like Texas instruments, that visit.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The yearly fees are broken into two semesters with each semester costing around 1,30,000. Around 1,10,000 is tuition fees and this is waived off for branch rank 1 of every year. The rest fees are for hostels, mess fees etc. There is also a quota for economically weaker sections (EWS category) which brings down the cost significantly.
Campus Life :
Abundant options for extracurriculars. There are well established cultural clubs for music, dance, debating, theatre, anchoring filmmaking and more. There are also very good technical clubs for both hardware and software. Other than that we also have good sports facilities like cricket grounds, tennis courts, football grounds athletic grounds and more. The annual cultural festival is called Alcheringa and is the biggest student run festival in Northeast India. It is held in February mostly and involves a pretty big team which does everything from event management to marketing. We also have a technical fest called Techniche and sports fest called Spirit. We also have a very good library which has mostly all the textbooks required for study and also other books. The library is air conditioned with sufficient space for studying and check out is fully automated. There are also student run bodies including the student gymkhana, the cultural technical and sports boards with elections.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostel mess quality is highly variable but on an average the food is not very tasty. However there is an option to review your mess and action is taken if reviews are very bad. But we have canteens and juice centres in every hostel and some canteens are very good with affordable food. They are open till at least midnight or even overnight during exams. The hostels have amenities like music room, hostel Library, basic sports equipment like cricket bat and tennis racquets. Some hostels have good gyms. The rooms are mostly good with rooms in newer hostels (like Lohit and Disang) being better and more spacious. Hostels are compulsory, allotted at the time of admission. There is provision to change hostels in case one has some genuine issue. For first and second year bachelors we have roommates and single room after that. The rooms are mostly big enough to have two people.

Dream Campus, Not-So-Dream Jobs

There are teachers under which u can work and later they can surely help u land a intership, happened with one of my friend. But as of now department dont directly provide u internship. I dont wanna say vague or old numbers about average or highest placement data, so wont comment on it but overall its not that great but there are exceptions, like there are some brilliant minds who lands an enormous off campus placement.(My 2 seniors who r out of india right now) Last year Bharat electronics BHEL came and took 8 seniors for 13lpa package, some banking companies and TCs comes too. My plans after my degree is to get a job in electronic domain while also focusing on my photography and editing Passion Check my work on insta sodaa.edits
My life in B.Borooah College as a science student
Placement Experience :
Placements At B. Borooah College for a BSc Forget it. There's no placement scene like you hear about. No companies come for recruitment drives. The so-called placement cell just puts up notices for government job ads or maybe a local pharmacy needing a helper. I've never seen a single big name visit campus to hire BSc grads. So there's no list of recruiters, no number of offers, and definitely no talk of high packages. Zero students get placed from here in that way. The plan after the degree is everything. For me, it's going for an MSc. For others, it's preparing for government exams, doing B.Ed., or applying to labs and hospitals directly. This college gives you the valid degree, the ticket to sit for other exams or apply further. It doesn't get you a job. It makes you eligible to go find one yourself. Your future is 100% in your own hands after you walk out.
COLLEGE LIFE

There are 100% internship in Bsc agriculture are also good the average packages 3 to 4 LPA the highest package is 12 LPA percentage of students getting placements are about 70 - 80% the eligibility criteria depends upon the performance of the student on its practical work and its CGPA

Placement Experience :
The ratio of placement and job is very poor, this is a college of general degree course, so after passing B.Sc., B.Sc. one does not get a job directly, in future one has to do Masters degree, PhD.But data from the last three/four year revealed that students did get jobs in SBI and some other organization, but the percentage was very low.That is why most of the students after completing normal graduation take admission in courses like Masters and BEd, Deled.And my plan in future is to do Masters from IIT or IISER, after that I want to do PhD.

You must get more than 7 CGPA to sit in the placement. TCS, L&T, Jacobs etc and the highest package is around 21 LPA around 15% are placed every year.Iwill be doing PHd in IIT after getting my degree.

I choose this course because I am interested in learning coding and I want to seek my future in this line. I am finding some difficulties in understanding the subjects and topics but I believe it is because I am new to this field and new to everything.
