I wanted to pursue MBBS and was always told that BJGMC was the best medical school in Pune as it was the only Government medical college here. After attempting NEET entrance exam(it is a written MCQ based test)for medical college admission and scoring a decent score of 645 marks,I was advised by all my seniors, teachers and relatives to choose the college. The counseling round or admission process begins after about two months after the test and that is when you are alloted the college from your preference list . This Allotment Is a selection process done by all medical colleges and is Merit based(higher your score ,high is the chance you get selected at your preferred college)
MBBS is a 5.5 years course including 4.5years of academic college and 1 year of internship. There are around 19 subjects in the entire course. Each subject(also called as Department) has its faculty of 5-10 lecturers who are one of the best faculties for those subjects. The teaching method includes classroom teaching, practicals, hospital postings , group discussions, self directed learning sessions and lot more. Each year of MBBS has 2 internal assessments and 1 final exam conducted by the University (MUHS) . Fees for entire course is Rs. 465000(Rs. 116000 each year for 4 years).Scholarships are provided by the government which vary according to various criterias and can be upto 100% of the tution fees . Other than that, many private institutions provide scholarships for needy medical students to help them financially.
1 year internship Is a part of the MBBS curriculum and the colleges responsibility to get the internships completed. After 4.5 years of studying MBBS ,the one year internship is the time when you get to get hands on experience as a doctor. Internship at a Government hospital makes you learn a lot of things which makes one a competent and good doctor. The internship is paid and Government pays approximately 15000-20000 per month during internship.
After MBBS you are a competent doctor and have following opportunities 1. Pursue Postgraduation in your favorite subject(which most of MBBS students do). 2. Work as physician in Government or Private hospital 3. Start your private practice as a doctor 4. Be a medical officer after qualifying through the Civil service exams About everyone (who studies well and passes all the exams with good grades )gets a job. Average salary of a MBBS doctor varies from Rs.50000 to Rs.125000 and depends on many other factors . I am planning to give PG entrance exam and pursue Postgraduation in Medicine .
Social life is a really good . You get to meet lot of great minds and get the chance to study with them. Since the academic curriculum is huge ,students don't seem to be enjoying and hanging out a lot but the event's and clubs play a crucial part here. VEDANT is the biggest intercollegiate event at the college. It is a 10-15 days event which includes 1. cultural events ( dance ,singing, instruments, band performances, acting, drama, bollywood and anime quizzes ,stand up comedy, etc) 2.Academic (seminars ,workshops, debates ,essay competitions, etc) 3.Sports ( football, cricket, volleyball, badminton, tabletennis, chess, etc) Infrastructure is not too attractive but is huge . The classrooms are capable for 250 students seatings, corridors are huge ,clean and neat . There is a Library and 2 huge reading rooms in the college and 1 reading room for each hostel.Overall Infrastructure is good.
I haven't reached my placement stage yet but from what I have seen the college doesn't wait until the final year to start preparing students. We have coding sessions, skills building workshops and career guidance from the beginning. Seniors also share their experiences which gives us a better idea of what to expect. I feel the college is helping us build the right foundation for internships and placements. At the same time, I think getting a good job also depends on how much effort we put into improving our own skills. So far I feel I am on the right track
no placement data is present now but many of students are working on their own projects and few are cracked the internships and now currently serving their period on the companies and it's really great opportunities.
The college does have a placement cell. It provides some in campus placements . Rarely 2% students get in campus placements. Rest have to find jobs pn their own. You wi have to do alot of interships and gain practical skills to be placed
Diffrent companies have different criteria, limited companies comes in campus such as bootcoding Pvt.Ltd , and some small companies arrived. Highest package giving by companies is 4 LPA lowest package is 3LPA and average package is 2.5LPA. about 20% of students got placed. Searching a job after my course computation.
