IIT Dharwad in a Nutshell
Likes
- The course curriculum and faculty are top notch over here who have done great research in their respective fields. Very well designed course which helps complete academic development of the student
- The campus life is great over here. I personally have a lot of fun. You get to explore whole new level of yourself which is great for the development of the individual.
Dislikes
- The main issue I have is with the placements and internships from the college. An IIT is the premiere institute of India but we still face problems here. It is decent but not that great as I haad expected it to be.
- The other issue I would have is the non completion of the infrastructure. Although there is almost everything over here, there can be still a lot more facilities
Remarks :
After giving one of the world's toughest exams 'JEE Mains' and 'JEE Advanced', I secured a rank of 4500. Being a general category student gives me the option of choosing first and second-generation IITs with a branch compromise or a third-generation IIT with Computer Science. I am passionate about Computer Science and I also live in Bangalore so IIT Dharwad became my natural choice. Overall the campus experience is good. Although it is still in the process of construction, all the facilities a student desires are present here. The bad aspect I would say is the placements and internships which are not at par with the top IITs but are decent enough.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is very well designed here at IIT Dharwad keeping in the all-round development of the student. The first year of every student goes into studying common core courses which helps the student in developing a good understanding of every subject. The Faculty over here is one of the best the country can offer and is at par with the faculty from the top IITs of India. The fees over here would be approximately 12-13 lakh for the entirety of 4 years. There are scholarships present for every category of students which helps reduce the economic burden of the students to a great extent.
Internships Opportunities :
Being it my first year I have only done an academic internship which does not pay me money but gives me good industry insight. From IIT Dharwad you could get an internship at a reputed company but then again it depends on the capability of the student and his/her skill level.
Placement Experience :
The placement and job opportunities here at IIT Dharwad are not that good. Being is a third-generation IIT that has just recently started. The eligibility criteria is to have a minimum of 8 CGPA to sit for the campus placement. Amazon, Google, Nvidia, Microsoft and other famous MNCs all of them come to our institute. The highest package is 50 LPA and the average is around 22 LPA. Around 50 per cent of the students get placed here and the others try for off-campus placements and higher studies. My plan after getting a degree is to do my Master's outside India and then look for a job or start my own company.
Campus Life :
The campus and social life at our campus are great. I live in the hostels here on campus. As this is the third-gen IIT, the rooms are one of the best. There are many clubs of which all are student-led. They are really fun and engaging. The infrastructure over here is great but not all of it has been completed still it takes 5-10 years to be completed but we do have all the facilities a student would think of. We have our cultural, sports and tech fest. Sports and Cultural Fest usually happens during February and March and the Tech Fest during September. We have a huge library with a vast collection of books and journals. The food quality in the mess is good and the menu over here is rotated every month. I would say 12 lakhs is very affordable as this is a government institute. If someone doesn't want to live in the hostel then they could get a room in Dharwad at a very affordable price which is just 5-10 min away from the institute.

For our degree program we have well placement opportunities other than bsc agriculture and btech biotechnology. For our college only company will come like itc,shula wine, Nestle etc and they offer good package minimum around 4lakh and some have aptitude test and interview some direct interview

There are top rated faculties which are present in the college who have pursued MBBS and MD degrees from top colleges and have for an exam to become a professor in this college and the teaching skills are pretty great as they make a topic pretty easy to understand for students

The placement and job opportunities are good in our college. Our college provides us only with UG Courses so most of the students pursue higher education after that. The placements are good in our college. If I talk about internships so they are very good. Our college provides both paid and unpaid internships to students.

The criteria is the cgpa should be above 7 and the companies visited are wipro, flipkart, amazon etc. the highest package is 48 lakh per annum and lowest pacuis 3 lakh per annum and the average is 6 lakh per annum

The placement of the college is excellent in the cse stream it has an average package of 9 lakh per annum and highest package of 38 lakh per annum it is a good salary or package for an engineer so it is good placement

Course Curriculum Overview :
Faculties are well qualified and some of them are doing active research. However the college does not have a very active research environment but they do not hinder a student from taking up projects outside. They provide all support like recommendations, attendance permissions etc.

All the faculties are well qualified and quite renowned in their research fields. However some of them have this quality of holding personal grudge and targeting. Some assume you know a lot and don't teach properly and expect more from the student. There is a lot of pressure even with internals, assignments and other things.

Placement Experience :
For placement, The student shouldnt have any backlogs. There are companies that are stated as "Great Places to Work" as well as some startups that come for college recruitment. The highest package last year (2023) was 6000000, and the average package of the university is approximately 850000. A good percentage of people who opt for placements do get placed decntly. My plans after my BBA are writing GMAT and going for my MBA abroad in a good college.
