- The best part of NEHU is the campus itself. The campus is huge and fully adorned with pine tress and tiny hills. Most people seeing NEHU for the first time are usually awestruck at how beautiful the campus is. The overall calm and peaceful atmosphere really makes it a great place to spend 2 years of your life.
- The campus is active in its own ways with regular events such as Balls, musical events, sports and theatre performances. For enthusiasts of sports there is a lot of potential here.
Dislikes
- The administration people can be very lazy and it gets annoying at times. They are just generally laid back and that makes everything run very slowly. Getting hostels were a task in the initial weeks as it required a lot of begging and pestering to finally get a room.
- The food options within and around the campus can feel a little expensive for anyone from outside of Shillong. There are good cheaper options but there is a lack of diversity. Ideally going to the town occasionally can solve this easily as there are a lot of good places outside.
Remarks :
The main reason for choosing NEHU was the Department of English which had very good faculty members. The campus is beautiful but the main administration is a bit lazy sometimes. I wrote the CUET PG exam and used the scorecard to apply here. The admission process was fairly simple. You have to reach the campus for counseling and then they will verify your documents, make you sign anti-ragging forms, write the hostel application pay the admission fee, and submit the fee receipt in the office, and thats it. The cut-off will heavily rely on how CUET goes, so based on that the cut-off will be set.
Course Curriculum Overview :
As far as Academics is concerned, NEHU’s English department is easily one of the best departments in NEHU. The course papers included your typical British and American literature, but besides that, it included South Asian studies, Indian literature in translation, Theory and Text, North East Studies, Literary Criticism and Theory, Creative writing, Shakespeare and his Contemporaries, Women’s Writing, and more. The syllabus is very detailed and good. But for our batch due to late CUET after COVID, classes started as late as November and hence the first semester was rushed. But the entire department has a very student-friendly stance and hence it was never a struggle. Term exams are usually long descriptive answers where the focus is on the ability to creatively answer questions, and display your critical thinking skills. The fee in NEHU is low compared to most other central universities.
Internships Opportunities :
I have not opted for any internships but my classmates have been doing internships and have gotten research grants for various topics that they were working on. You can easily find internships in Shillong or go online if you wish to build some experience and learn the ropes.
Placement Experience :
Taking up an MA in English at NEHU or anywhere else opens up possibilities mainly in Education, Academia, or Publishing. By appearing for and qualifying UGC NET the possibilities can be broadened but there is still a strong competition you need to overcome. PhD is the ideal way to go and with a JRF stipend of up to 40k, this is a good track to follow. Going for assistant professor jobs on the other hand can fetch a decent 38k-50k in private institutions. I am planning to do my PhD and continue in academia as I believe the effort and my genuine interest in the subject will be put in the right place that way.
Campus Life :
The library has a decent collection of books, journals, and academic articles, but the library isn’t NEHU’s strongest aspect. A better collection that can enable researchers is desired. The classrooms are well-built and will have Smart screens or whatever they are called in most classes, and these come with great displays and great audio. For students interested in extracurricular activities such as drama, music etc. there are different clubs that are very active. Hostel is affordable but in NEHU getting a hostel often takes a month so till then most students rent a house or take a PG. The hostel food will require a little getting used to.

The employment rate of my course is demanding so I opt this. Also there is campus opportunity for some courses available in the college. After biotechnology you can choose any profession like professor researcher etc .

Job opportunities from our college is not quite good, but our college is renowned for their excellence in commerce so employability after completion of course is not a big issue especially for me, i personally would like to get involved in financial sectors

Since it's a college affiliated under NEHU, so there's only graduation course here. But if you want to do masters you have go to NEHU for that. Only then you will get a good placement. But I had friends in other departments they were given the opportunity to sit for placement interview but again the package isn't as high as someone would get after post graduation.

Placement opportunities were not directly available but many companies and institutions scouted our students through seminars and programmes for further job after the degree. The package differed from student to student and they were offered individually to them so it was hard to know the exact number.

80% placement is sure 100% sure 23k for the new minimum it is 4 to 5 lakh package which is amazing as a fresher and the PG rooms is also good idli do output percentage of students getting plus mint and criteria is from the website.

Since I’m still under graduation , I don’t know much about the placements here. But my plans after my graduation is to persue MBA from a good university. But as I’ve heard from my seniors, the placements here are quite good and many of the students grab the placement opportunities that are offered here.
