A decent medical college in Assam
Likes
- Infrastructure is good, although some facilities are still lacking, but the available infrastructure is well functioning and caters to most of the needs of the students and patients
- Faculties are kind of strict with the studies part as compared to other medical colleges of Assam and adhere to NMC guidelines strictly.
Dislikes
- Campus Life is quite boring with irregularly held fests, less extra-curricular events, no proper playground and absence of an auditorium for indoor events
- Hospital facilities need an upgrade since most of the serious cases need to be referred to Gauhati Medical College due to lack of certain facilities. Making those facilities available would ease the treatment process of patients as well as improve exposure on part of the students- both UG & PG.
Remarks :
The college has a good infrastructure, a well-functioning hospital attached to the same campus and has been producing good results in Assam for the past few years. The admission is via the NEET-UG exam conducted every year. For residents of Assam, 85% of seats are reserved under the State Quota and the counselling & seat allotment are done by the Directorate of Medical Education, Assam the rest 15% of seats belong to the All India Quota and the counselling process & seat allotment is done by Medical Counselling Committee under the Govt of India. There are also some seats reserved for students from other states of North-east India under the North Eastern Quota as the other northeastern states have a lesser number of medical colleges as compared to Assam.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Course: The course duration is 4.5 years of study + 1 year Paid Internship under the Govt of Assam. Faculties: The faculties are well qualified and all the departments are functional with an adequate number of faculties. All the faculties hold a postgraduate degree and some even super specialty degrees. Exams: Internal exams are held trimester-wise, once every 3 months under the Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS), Assam and the professional exams are held at the end of the year for each batch. Fees: The fee is as decided by the Govt of Assam and is much less compared to pvt medical institutions.
Internships Opportunities :
One year rotatory internship in all the departments in the college hospital itself with a stipend of 36,225 per month as already described earlier. Community Medicine postings are in nearby PHCs in Titabor and Mariani, around 18-20 km from the college campus.
Placement Experience :
Placement in MBBS is quite guaranteed although there's no official guarantee but it's understood. One year compulsory internship in the college hospital and 1-year rural service bond applicable. The stipend for interns is the highest here in Assam among all the states. Earlier it was around 31k per month, now after revision, it's 36,225/ per month. Quite good for an intern compared to other states.
Campus Life :
Fest: Esperanza, conducted irregularly though. Every year either there will be college week or inter-college events, either one. Library: There is a big central Library with lots of books for both UG and PG levels, along with a separate reading room. Sports & extracurricular: Lesser opportunities for sports, not gonna lie. But yes, sports week is held every year where you can showcase your talents. Hostel: There are 2 hostels for UGs- one boys hostel and one girls hostel. Food is okayish but rooms are smaller. Two students per room, and you're lucky if you get a single room. My stay: I live in a PG nearby, around 1.5 km from the college campus. The locality is good and student-friendly.

There are teachers under which u can work and later they can surely help u land a intership, happened with one of my friend. But as of now department dont directly provide u internship. I dont wanna say vague or old numbers about average or highest placement data, so wont comment on it but overall its not that great but there are exceptions, like there are some brilliant minds who lands an enormous off campus placement.(My 2 seniors who r out of india right now) Last year Bharat electronics BHEL came and took 8 seniors for 13lpa package, some banking companies and TCs comes too. My life in B.Borooah College as a science student
Placement Experience :
Placements At B. Borooah College for a BSc Forget it. There's no placement scene like you hear about. No companies come for recruitment drives. The so-called placement cell just puts up notices for government job ads or maybe a local pharmacy needing a helper. I've never seen a single big name visit campus to hire BSc grads. So there's no list of recruiters, no number of offers, and definitely no talk of high packages. Zero students get placed from here in that way. The plan after the degree is everything. For me, it's going for an MSc. For others, it's preparing for government exams, doing B.Ed., or applying to labs and hospitals directly. This college gives you the valid degree, the ticket to sit for other exams or apply further. It doesn't get you a job. It makes you eligible to go find one yourself. Your future is 100% in your own hands after you walk out.

The ratio of placement and job is very poor, this is a college of general degree course, so after passing B.Sc., B.Sc. one does not get a job directly, in future one has to do Masters degree, PhD.But data from the last three/four year revealed that students did get jobs in SBI and some other organization, but the percentage was very low.That is why most of the students after completing normal graduation take admission in courses like Masters and BEd, Deled.And my plan in future is to do Masters from IIT or IISER, after that I want to do PhD.

Life as a BTech Student at IIT guwahati
Placement Experience :
there is a CPI criteria of around 6 to sit for placements. The highest packages for bachelors can go up to 1.5cr. Companies in coding include Google, Amazon, Flipkart, Ola, Uber, finance companies like JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and many more. Highest paying companies are AlphaGrep, Quadeye, JaneStreet but that is very competitive with only people with the best results and from CS getting in. Many people also receive preplacement offers after internships. There are also many companies that visit for product management roles like Ola, Meesho etc. The placement process for Design students is separate. There are also core companies like Texas instruments, that visit.

I choose this course because I am interested in learning coding and I want to seek my future in this line. I am finding some difficulties in understanding the subjects and topics but I believe it is because I am new to this field and new to everything.
