There is a specific entrance exam conducted by Indian Maritime University for the admission process. This exam is purely based on our knowledge and academic efforts. The syllabus includes that of Jee. Though level might not be as difficult as jee. Once the results are out students are given a choice to choose among the campuses based on the course they desire to enroll in. After that, there is no difficulty in the admission process and everything is carried out smoothly.
Generally, like every engineering college students have to make an effort and engage themselves in studies to the maximum level possible. The faculty is good. The teaching methods of every faculty aren't the same, it might take time to adapt to every faculty teaching method. But once the code is cracked it becomes less tedious. However, I would like to add you might not always like every faculty. Language barriers and biases may occur often. But these things will make u ready for the real world. The curriculum is purely based on the designing of the ship and making sure that the ship sustains in every condition as much as possible. For students who have a fascination with ships and offshore platforms and structures, the course might turn up as a new forte to conquer and face. The exams shape the students each coming semester and embed them for the new one. Exams are conducted semester-wise. Every semester has 2 internal examinations and 1 semester examination along with practical and vice-voice.
I did my internship at Goa Shipyard and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders. We were not offered a stipend but there are other companies offering stipends with equal opportunity. The internship is part of the curriculum of the seventh semester and is compulsory for everyone. The internship can be provided by the college or the students can also opt for their desired company.
We have the highest rate of placement. Which is 98%. Campus interviews as well as out of Campus interviews are carried out every year. The shipping industry is now developing and hence has very many opportunities available.
The fees have now been raised by some 50k more. This fee includes hostel accommodation and mess food. It is to be paid semester vise. Scholarship can be obtained but as I haven't applied for one I am unaware of the detailed procedure. This fee excludes the semester exam fees.
The social life might not be as great as others. The major reason is the location of the campus. It is situated far away from the city. Hence amenities are quite scarce. But the University is on it as there is new infrastructure being built that will house facilities such as various physical activities areas, a cafeteria, an open house theatre, ATMs, a stationery Shop, etc. But it will surely take some time to build. Few clubs encourage the students to harness their abilities such as photography, Sketching, Dancing, and Film making. Due to the wide variety of students from various regions. Every festival is celebrated here. The students and divided into houses in which they compete for a House Cup. There are multiple competitions held that promote a healthy fight between students and keep them entertained.
Campus life isn't much to be discussed as it is located very far away from the main city. This is the biggest con of the college. There are no proper means to travel to the city and is also very costly unless u bring ur own 2-wheeler vehicle. ( Yes, 2-wheeler vehicles are allowed and have parking as well). The mess food can be classified as good compared to other campuses.
Those students who are in 5th semister are eligible for campus placements. Around 70-80% students are placed every year in top reputed companies with decent salary. I received placement offer from TCS . That was because of placement cell of Ashoka.
The campus placement is really good . Most of the students get placed in small or big company at last the moto is to have a job not focusing on salary where the salary does not matter. above 75% is the eligibility to sit in the campus placement drive if the company give their eligibility criteria or else no.
Considering current job market the Placements and job opportunities are satisfactory with mass hiring companies such as Accenture, Infosys and Capgemini being the highest bulk recruiting service based companies where 20-30 students get placed out of a class of strength 70, students are asked to register in their Third year for placements , The eligibility criteria is to not have any active backlogs and ready with structured resume though students are filtered with their CGPA , they will be rounds of aptitude and problem solving and having good DSA background will help a lot . The Highest packages is from Infosys which give 16+ LPA to students with advanced DSA knowledge but majority are placed between 4.5 - 6 LPA . Many students opt for higher studies by preparing for competitive exams or use their strong alumni network to get referrals are big Tech companies.
The average annual hostel fee is around Rs. 48,000 per student (or roughly Rs. 3,000 - 4,000 per month. The campus offers separate hostels for boys and girls with furnished rooms. Students note that the rooms are kept tidy, well-lit, and offer options for both single and shared occupancy.
In my college, the highest package is 35lpa and lowest package is 2lpa. Many companies was visited to my college for placement like tech Mahindra, Infosys, auto desk. Coming to the placements, their was many competition to get the offer.
Students with cgpa greater than 9 are considered first for placements indirectly. They will get more companies. And there will be bulk hiring for most of the students. TCS , Cognizant etc will come . And I feel the placement training team CRCS will train the students mainly competitive programming . Because they focus more on this .Also they will teach you each and everything ranging from how to write the recruitment exam to how to attend the HR interview. Even if you want to go for higher studies, they will guide you through it. The average package is around 10 LPA. And the highest is 50 LPA. Most of the students are placed through the University placements itself.
Students generally are eligible for placements after completion of 3rd year. Top companies like amazon, Accenture, Infosys, paypal, TCS, etc offered placements last year with offers in range of 5-15 . Highest package is 44 LPA and average package is 9 LPA. Percentage of students placed is in the range of 70%-80%. I am planning to prepare for Bank exams after completion of graduation.
Job opportunities are countless for the students who are skilled. Both software and core jobs placements can be observerved in a wide range. Many multi national companies like deloitte, infosys, snovasys, TCS, Accenture are tied up with the campus for conducting drives.

There are good placements are going on on this university to crack a job interviews and minimum packages are got by some and most got more packages and the more more companies are coming to this university and when we have skill and discipline only we get placement job otherwise we won't get job.
