KKHSOU B.Ed admission follows the state-level process under the NCTE framework. Students need a graduation degree with at least 50% marks, while reserved category students need 45%. Admission is based on the KKHSOU B.Ed entrance examination, followed by seat allotment through entrance score and merit.
For Ph.D. admission, applicants need a master's degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks. The process includes the KKHSOU Research Entrance Test and a personal interview. Students with a valid UGC-NET or JRF score may not have to take the written test. Ph.D. seats are offered in humanities, social sciences, education, management, and IT departments.
KKHSOU teaches through regional centres and study centres in Assam and other North East states. Students attend contact sessions from time to time at the nearest study centre. They also receive printed self-learning materials and online study content. Exams are held at assigned centres across the region.
KKHSOU mainly serves working professionals, homemakers, and students who cannot join full-time classroom courses. The university does not run a formal campus placement drive. As reported in NIRF 2025 data, 1,236 students were placed, and the median package for 2-year PG graduates was INR 3.6 LPA.
KKHSOU graduates from MBA and MA programmes work in government departments, NGOs, educational institutions, media organisations, and small businesses in Assam and the North East. The ODL MBA is useful for working professionals who want a management qualification without leaving their jobs.
KKHSOU has its permanent campus at Patgaon, outside Guwahati, in Assam's Kamrup district. The campus includes administrative offices, faculty rooms, a library, and examination management facilities.
The university also runs several regional centres in Assam so that students can get support closer to home. Its study centres operate from affiliated colleges and institutions across the state. Every enrolled student receives printed Self-Learning Materials (SLMs), and the university also supports digital learning through an e-learning portal and recorded video lectures.
KKHSOU does not offer hostel facilities. Since it is a distance university, residential stay is not included in its services. Students in Guwahati usually visit the campus or regional centres only for contact sessions and exams.
Students in Assam who want an open or distance-mode degree often compare KKHSOU with IGNOU and Gauhati University's distance education division. These are common choices for learners in North East India.
| Parameter | KKHSOU, Guwahati | IGNOU, New Delhi | Gauhati University (Distance) |

Gauhati University's distance division carries the GU degree name. The better option depends on the course needed and the student's preferred language of study.
