Steps for MBBS Admission
MCC conducts centralised NEET UG counselling for all MBBS seats at AIIMS Patna. The All India Quota covers 100% of its 125 seats, with no state quota.
- Check the qualifying requirements: Class 12 must include Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. The aggregate requirement is 60%, with 50% for SC/ST and 45% for OBC.
- Check the age condition: applicants must be at least 17 years old on December 31 of the admission year.
- Take NEET UG. The entrance rank forms the basis of selection.
- Participate in MCC counselling rounds for allocation of an MBBS seat.
Postgraduate and Super-specialty Entry
AIIMS New Delhi holds INI-CET twice yearly for postgraduate admission to Institutes of National Importance. The July session fills seats for programmes starting in August, while the January session fills seats for programmes starting in February. MD/MS admission uses INI-CET; the entrance route for DM/MCh is INI-SS.
- For MD/MS, hold an MBBS degree with 55% aggregate. Complete the internship by July 31 for the July session or January 31 for the January session.
- For DM/MCh, hold an MD/MS qualification in the relevant specialty.
- Take the entrance test applicable to the course. INI-CET is conducted on a computer and tests basic as well as clinical sciences.
- Proceed through the centralised admission process using the entrance examination result.
Nursing and Allied Health Entry
Applicants to BSc Nursing (Hons) and BSc Allied Health Sciences need Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB), along with at least 55% aggregate. AIIMS New Delhi conducts the central BSc Nursing and Allied Health Sciences entrance examinations annually.
- Confirm that the Class 12 subjects and aggregate meet the course requirements.
- Appear for the applicable AIIMS BSc Nursing or Allied Health Sciences entrance examination.
- Follow the central admission process conducted by AIIMS New Delhi.

| 2026 | MBBS, NEET UG | General category, Round 2 | 1588 |
| July 2026 | MD General Medicine, INI-CET | July session | 119 |

AIIMS Patna Career Routes and Earnings
AIIMS Patna does not run a conventional campus placement process. After MBBS, graduates generally choose further study through NEET PG or INI-CET, hospital junior residency, or work in government service or private medical practice. Most take the postgraduate entrance route to specialise through MD/MS.
| Career Stage | Typical Earnings | Work or Training Details |
| MBBS internship | INR 22,000 to 30,000 per month as a stipend | Compulsory one-year rotating internship in the AIIMS Patna hospital |
| MD/MS junior residency at AIIMS | INR 1 Lakh per month as a stipend | For postgraduate students studying at AIIMS institutions |
| Government Medical Officer after MBBS | INR 65,000 to 80,000 per month | State government recruitment through BPSC or an equivalent authority |
| Private hospital employment or private practice after MBBS | Starting earnings of INR 8 to 15 LPA | Pay depends on the city and specialty; LPA means lakh per annum |
| Private sector work after MD/MS | Starting earnings of INR 15 to 30 LPA | Specialty and location can make a substantial difference to earnings |
Graduates can choose their next step as soon as they finish the mandatory internship because AIIMS Patna has no service bond. This allows immediate entry into postgraduate admission or private practice. By comparison, most Bihar state government medical colleges require 2 to 5 years of rural service.
AIIMS Patna National Rankings

In NIRF Medical 2025, Rishikesh stood at 13 and Bhubaneswar at 14, ahead of Patna at 27. Differences in research output and perception scores contribute to these positions. Patna's larger hospital, with 1,331 beds, serves Bihar's densely populated catchment area. NMC recognition, the same fee structure and the absence of a service bond are common to all three. Their relative strengths differ, so none leads on every comparison point.
